Recently purchased a 5.9 from a 99 3500 van to swap into my 2001 5.2 Ram 4x4 shortie.
1.) Will the z series from the van swap into my 5.2? 2.) can the ecm simply be reprogrammed to handle the 5.9? 3.) Will I need a different torque converter or will it balance out the same?
Computer will work too. I did the same swap on my 98. It isn't optimal and leaves a lot of power on the table but it is very driveable (over a year). Getting a custom tune is the RIGHT way to do it but I haven't had the $ for that.
Sorry guys, getting some mixed messages. Some are saying I need the 5.9 torque converter and some are saying the 5.9 flexplate. .... Which is it or maybe both?
Thanks for all the input.... still working the swap. I just stabbed the 5.9 back in and working on the hookups now.... will keep the blog posted. I'm worried that there will be some merlin in the mix that jinxes the whole thing.
