Hi I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 (parts truck) that I would like to remove the rear end and install it in my 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. Can I just swap the axles out so I can use my rim that are now on the 1500? The 2500 is an 8 lug and the 1500 is a 5 lug. let me know if you have any ideas
Thanks
Bob
if you asking if you can put the axles from the 9.25 into the D60 I believe the answer is no due to different shaft thickness/diameter.
Rem will be along in a minute to give a more detailed answer!
So If I want a better rear rend what should I go with. I would like to in the future change the ratio in both the ront and rear due to the 39.5 rubber I'm running. I know I have a Dana 40 in the front.
Really anyhing is possible. There are custom rear axles that you can buy off of 4wd sites. I am not too familiar with axles and all of that I am still trying to learn. Really if you have the time and money you can do anything.
I have seen on Extreme 4x4 (Powerblock T.V) they put 2500 axles on a 1500. If you know how to do it then it is possible. I think I even have that in a magazine now that I think of it. I will look when I get a chance and maybe send you a scanned copy of the DIY of the axle swap!
