Well the Alumaseal® that I used last year held up until this fall, so I put in another tube and it worked again, for about a month. I bypassed the heater core when I noticed the fluid coming out of the floor heater on the passenger side and made the inevitable appointment to have the core replaced. I would have loved to do it myself, I have a Universal HVAC Certification, but do not have the recover and recycle equipment or shelter necessary to do it myself. An old school friend has a garage, so anything I can't do I take to him, he is fair priced and does the work on time. Anyway, in case anyone wants a ballpark figure, I was charged $704.00
, which is very reasonable compared to the dealership quote of $1500
. I do not understand why they would put a part, that they know is going to need replacing
, in an inaccessible area, costing the consumer a very unreasonable amount of money to replace an inexpensive part! I am upset with the design practice that makes a person wonder if they should spend that much money to replace the part or just go and buy a new (to them) vehicle. It just isn't right!
