I use my '06 1-ton to pull trailers commercially from factory to dealers. Since I started in Feb '16, I have driven 45,000 miles - 1/2 deadhead and 1/2 under loads from 7,500 to 16,000 lbs. Fuel mileage is affected by terrain - hills or flat, wind direction and speed, driving speed, transmission and differential gearing, and your foot. You have to find your best options by experimenting at different speeds. I have gotten as low as 12.5 and as high as 16.5 both loaded. Empty, I get from 17.5 to 20.0. Experiment - my best mileage is at 2050 RPM at 65 MPH loaded =16.5 MPG. Best ever empty was 98.8 MPG in gear downhill in Montana. I have the pictures to prove it.

Just got my truck, did two fill-up, towed 28 footer cougar, fully loaded and truck, thorough the Canadian rockies. Each fill up, I had 18 L/per 100km. I was over 10,000 lbs. That would be 18 mpg us and 23 mpg imperial. I did use tow/haul most of the way, and mostly in 5 gear, occasional 6 and average speed 100 KM. Ran about 10 percent of speed limit.

I get about 4-5 gallons, to the mile, pulling 20K tons.
Depending on how often I stop and start.

Man. I wish I could get double digit MPG. I have a 20x8.5 cargo trailer coming in at 4500lb dry. Fill it up to about 9000lb and get nothing better then 8.5mpg
