Question Diesel Programers

Have a 2012 Ram Turbo Diesel. Any information on which is the best programer to purchase for better fuel milege and possibly towing. Looking at the Edge CTS? Wondering if this is the best?
Thanks for help.

From what I've seen the H&S Mini Maxx is the best if you want custom tuning. The RaceME is also a good tuner.. a lot cheaper but can only do the tunes it comes with... no custom tunes.

The older Mini Maxx tuners that can do deletes are very expensive. Honestly you won't see much improvement with any tuner unless you do the deletes.

Unfortunately I have no experience with anyone that is running a tuner on an emissions equipped truck. I can't comment on Edge either.

I am sure others will chime in.

H&S mini maxx is the way to go. They're pricey but by all reviews they're the best. It will set you back at least 1300 though.

As Arth said, if you want to see any noticeable gains in fuel economy you need to delete. The 4 options you have for delete tuners are H&S MiniMaxx, H&S XRT Pro, RaceME, or SmartyJR. That's listed in order from best to worst which coincides with the price. The MiniMaxx is the most versitile as it offers shift on the fly tuning, the ability to custom tune, transmission tuning (which you will want if you want to keep your transmission in tact) as well as a number of other options and gauge readouts. The XRT Pro is similar as far as features go but it does not offer shift on the fly tuning or gauge readouts. Both the RaceME and the SmartyJR offer engine tuning only.

If you do decide to go for full deletes you will also need either delete pipes or a full turbo back exhaust (I'd recommend Flo Pro). Plus an EGR delete kit is a good idea as well (Sinister Diesel makes the best kit available IMO)

Tuning and deleting is definitely not a cheap thing to do but once you do it you'll never look back. The truck is 10 times more fun to drive, much smoother and more powerful plus it will be way more reliable and last you much longer. Here's a link to my write up about the deletes on my truck if you want to read up on them some more - 2012 6.7 Cummins Tuned and Deleted - H&S MiniMaxx, Flo Pro Exhaust, and Sinister EGR Delete

$1300 would be cheap for a used one. New ones are going for around $1800 now.

I was hoping you would chime in here. youve got a lot more knowledge on this subject than most others on this forum.

1300 is the cheapest ive seen them sell for in the last couple months. 1500-1700 seems to be the more common selling point for a used one. at least thats what ive seen over on cummins forum.

Ya it can be kind of hit and miss. $1300 is possible but not very likely. I know Rollin' Smoke Diesel got a few in last week and sold them for around $1000 or something ridiculously low like that. That's the first time I've seen them that cheap since I've been into the diesel scene though.

When I bought mine the cheapest I could find them for online was around $1600-$1700 but prices have gone up again since then. I ended up getting mine from Draconian with the unlock codes and custom tunes for $1800. That same setup from Draconian now is going for $2300.

Kind of why I am now on the hunt for a used one.

What everyone stated above is spot on. "The best tuner" is really going to be based on what you do with your truck. The box tunes across all the brands/models is pretty much even. The MiniMax offers the most flexibility but only if you spend the extra $$ for custom tuning.

I have been running my RaceME for about 8 months (picked it up before the prices jumped) and have been very satisfied. The extra power and drivability after deleting is amazing. That being said I wish they would offer trans tuning just for the extra security.

One thing that I didn't see mentioned was that you should not by any Edge product for deleting your 2012. They will not work. I have the Edge CTS hooked up for gauges only and it is a great unit.
