Manual transfer case

Any way to make the transfer case on a 2011
2500 manual and eliminate the switch on the dash? Is the lever on the ST and Power Wagon actually mechanically connected to the transfer case or does it just actuate an electrical switch? I hate the knob on the dash, can't even see it when the gear shift is in drive.

Talk about an excellent question! As a guy who just got his actuator switched out, thankfully under lifetime power-train, I'm firmly in the camp of a manual lever.

The transfercase is slightly different between the manual level and the electric knob. (two different versions of the same transfercase) The manual lever is truly connected to the transfercase and switches modes by virtue of moving the shift rail. You can actually watch the lever move as the drivetrain moves due to the torque of the engine. To change from an electronically shifted transfercase, you will need to swap the transfercase (complete with lever), and then either cut your center console to accommodate for the lever, or (for a cleaner install) swap to a manual t-case center console.
