Thought I would start this to help answer a lot of questions. Please don't post in this thread to keep from having page after page that somebody has to read through to find an answer. PM or email me with any information you have to fill in the question marks, add, or correct any information and I will update this post. If you have any year model dodge and know what size wheels and tires came stock on it, backspacing, bolt pattern, etc., what size tires and wheels you have on it now and what you did to get them to fit leveling kit, lift, spacer, etc let me know by PM or email. For example just shoot me a PM that says: 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd, stock 275/60R20 bolt pattern 5on5.5 backspacing 5.5", currently running 35x12.5R20 to make them fit you need 2"+ leveling kit and 1/4" spacer. If you have a really good picture of it email it to me or if you have it on this forum send me a link and I'll post it to give people and idea of what their truck will look like with x year model dodge with x lift and x tires.

what back spacing are your wheels to fit a 20x10?

#43 · (Edited)
its probably close to 4.5 with a 10" wide wheel. i'm looking at a few different tires to do my dirty work. ranging form a 12.5 wide to a 14" wide. all 37"except for 1 bfg thats 37.5" tall. i figure i should be able to get any one of them under the truck with a 6" lift. i will just have to get the correct off set.

i couldn't find your wheels in a -20 but they have in a -18 and that is 4.79 inches of back spacing.

#45 ·
Hey Big Horn we have the same rims buddy. The offset is -18mm and the backspacing is 4.8". Yea the offset is really good with them, they give lots of room. I actually just noticed with my tires that they are pretty close to the knuckle haha. The tire I have is a 13.5" though so thats why......problem with that is my tires on the way are a 14.5"! Spacers here I come! haha

yes sir we do have some great rims haha....mine look better!! Just kidding! Yea the Toyo tires are usually wider then they say. So really the width is not that far off, when I looked at your pic it does look almost like mine. I think I have a little less room then you do which is going to suck for me next week haha

I recently have had the opportunity to purchse a set of 315/70/17 BFGs off a friend whom has less than 2k miles on them. I run 17" wheels on my truck already and thought this might be a good deal. I do not wish to lift my truck but would love to have bigger than 265s on it. My question is, can I comfortably run 315s on stock suspension without a leveling kit, or are these too tall?

#51 ·
that size is essentially a 35. your going to need a lift.

#53 ·
Yes you will need to do something to the trucks height to fit those 315/70/17s. You should be able to get by with a leveling kit since they are not a full 35" tire. You will need some wheel spacers as well to avoid any rubbing on the suspension components

Hey guys, I know im coming in way late in this conversation, but after reading all of your post I got alot of my questions I have had for a year answered. The bad part is that I just ordered Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10 for my truck. I ordered 275/60/20 and they will be going on my American Racing 20" Chrome wheels I got for them. I do have a Rough Country leveling kit installed 2.5 (front) 1.5 (rear). I didnt realize I could put a bigger tire on after installing that leveling kit. Will the tires and wheels I have still look good because they are the stock 20" size? Im worried about this now after reading everyones post. Thanks for your input.

Hi,

I can't seem to find out info about tire size for my truck.
Right now I have 2006 4WD 3" body lift with stock size nittos
I understand I can fit 35's on them, but I would like them to stick out a little bit, I guess that would be called the negative?
Can you explain what size tire I need to buy, to give my truck the most aggressive look with them sticking out a little.
Going with Toyo Open Country with 17 or 18 American Eagle Alloys.

Then..here is another issue
What size would I need if I add a 6" suspension lift on top of the body lift.

Thanks for the help!

By adding a 6" kit on top you could easily clear 37s or bigger. The thing with the tires sticking out past the fenders really depends on the wheels and the backspacing or called offset. Anywhere from -12 to -20 negative offset or around 4.50 backspacing will stick the tires out a couple inches past the fender. Plus when you lift your truck higher you'll need some extra backspacing to clear the suspension components or some spacers for your current wheels.

Need some info help

I just put a 2.5 level kit on my 07 2wd 1500 and im trying to see whats the largest tire i can run on the stock 20's. the guy at 4wheelparts.com told me 275/60/20.....but thats what im running right now stock and theres more than enough clearance for something bigger in my opinion but i want some knowledge from someone who actually knows for sure what they're talkinga bout so PLEASE HELP ME:att:

275's are not the max width you can run. I bet you can run a 285 section width tire on the stock wheels with no rub given your leveling kit. I also am certain you can go up to a 70 aspect ratio, just a bit taller than you have, and still not rub in the front. Beyond that, a different wheel with a different offset will be needed if you want to go to a wider tire. Also, anything taller than a 70 series tire will need a lift.

I'm running 285/75X18's on a wheel with +18mm offset and a 4" lift. those tires are 34.7" tall.

thats what im going to do tomorrow i was just curious because when the guy said that was the largest tire that would fit i knew that couldnt be right, at the same time ive heard of people running 35's with a 2 inch level and a body lift so i was wondering if that would be possible with the stock rims. at least for awhile untill i can get enough saved up for some rims

#65 ·
yeah i know so im pretty torn on what to do here, i mean i know i want to run at the very least a 33' but a 33 on a 20 inch rim is costing an arm and a leg so im at a crossroads at what the most cost efficient and best looking method would be

Hey guys. I've read through this entire post and got most of my questions answered but I've still got a few. I've got a 2009 1500 TRX4 with stock 17" wheels, 275 70/R17 tires. I'm looking to get some new wheels and a taller, wider tire. From what I gather from this post, I should be able to do a 35x12.5 tire if I put on a leveling kit. Correct? I've found another site that says to do a 35" tire I would need to lift the truck at least 4". I don't want to have any rubbing but defintely want a taller tire that will stick out a bit more that stock since the TRX4 has fender flares. Also looking for a more aggressive tire and from what I see on this thread I've got a lot of options.

I'd appreciate any help or advice on this since my local tire shops are virtually useless!

I've got 285/75X18 Toyos (34.8" total) with a 4" lift and +18mm offset wheels. It fits just fine but the tire comes REAL close to back corner of the wheel well. The additional height gave me what I needed.

I'd get your local tire shop to do some measuring for you to make sure that if you do go with a wider / taller tire you aren't taking out the flares or fender corners!

Also, that wide of a tire will come pretty close to the inside, maybe rubbing, with stock wheels. Even so, the stock wheel probably won't take a 12.50 tire.

i got an 09 dodge ram with 275/60/20 factory stock suspension can i get a 285/65/20 bf goodrich at ko in there with out rubbin issues and no leveling kit or anything if not would a 275/65/20 work? I mainly want to get a lil more height in my tire.thanks for any input
According to the Toyo Open Country A/T specs, an LT 275/65X20 is about 34" & 11" wide so that would be a squeeze height wise.

I couldn't find similar info on the LT285/65X20 but it will be about the same height and should be just 10mm or 0.3937" wider as the 275/65, so that one is a squeeze as well.
