Can anyone tell me how to go about this? I have a 98.5 5.9 L diesel 4X4 Is it an easy swapout?
Do I have to release the tension on the serpintine belt and move
the belt and just undo bolts on alt?
Thanks for any input...
Hello and welcome! :wavey:
Good to see you out here!! If you don't mind, tell us about yourself and your truck in the newbie section so we can greet you proper!! Enjoy the board! I hope the link Dave posted for you helps!
ya thats all it should be, remove the tension on the belt, unhook it, 2 main bolts that hold the alternator, maybe a few sub bolts depending, n just the power plugs that go into the alternator, then reverse to put it back together, alternators are usually a simple swap unless you a transverse mounted v6 then its a real pain in the ass, but a big engine compartment n v8 your alright, i had to replace the alternator on both of my trucks but they 5.7L one was chevy n i had to do it to my HEMI as well. Good luck with it, everything should go smoothly.
03ramhemi has it right just make sure you disconnect the battery so you don't cause a power spike when diconnecting and reconnecting the wire harness on the alternator. Apower spike can cause a diode to fail.
