hey guys i just bought an 01 ram 1500 2wd with 5.9. i bought it with blown head gaskets thinking it was an easy fix for a nice truck... i was wrong turns out both heads were cracked and all the bearings in the engine are shot along with the lifters and cam. so i decided i want to get a new or rebuilt engine. my question is where can i get a good reliable short or long block for a reasonable price? what about the surefire engines from auto zone? any help is appriecatedi just want to drive the dang thing already!
Welcome to the forum. Take a few moments and post up a newbie intro thread!
I have not purchased a crate engine from AutoZone but if they offer a warranty, or anyone else does, I would think the combination of best price and best warranty would get my money.
if your heads are cracked, you need a long block
if you get a short block you would still need to buy heads
I myself would NEVER buy a block, transmission, or rear end from Autozone, Pep Boys, Checker, Oreily, Advanced or any of the cheap auto parts stores. For one thing the parts are not precision made, too much built in slop
