Be sure to check in the 2014 discussion section - lots of chatter about the new ED in that section.

Default my experience in first two weeks...

ive had mine for 2.5 weeks, put two tanks of gas and have 1800 + miles...so i am still breaking it in. i have towed with it twice and didnt even notice anything back there at all. my first tank averaged 21mpg, and second 22mpg mixed driving and hand calculated. this tank started all highway and 27mpg according to the computer driving 75-80 mph. i dont have the air shocks and the truck is still incredible smooth and handling is impressive. so far i am impressed and will post more as the truck breaks in further. ... oh yeah... and the def has gone down 1/4 mark on the guage.

I only test drove one for about 30 miles. Nice truck and had good power, not sure if it would tow as good as the ecoBoost I had until a few days ago. One thing I can say is that the Dodge 1500 suspension feels unstable when towing (6500 lbs), I had a 10 and a 12 with a Hemi. In my opinion the F-150 ecoBoost is the best 1/2 Ton truck for towing.

With that said, I went back to a Cummins, my 4th one.

I'm a few weeks into ownership and about 3000 miles, most of which has been spent towing. I'm extremely impressed with this engine. I'm loving the fuel economy, with and without trailer. The power delivery is smooth and the torque is phenomenal for snatching a trailer through the mountains. We're high mileage drivers, to the 5+mpg over the EcoBoost Ford is a huge plus, especially in places where diesel and gas cost about the same.

I really like mine, but I can't recommend it anyone. I tried to purchase a lifetime warranty and the EcoDiesel is the only truck they won't sell a lifetime warranty for. They will only go to 120,000 miles. They must know something they are not telling us. I guess they don't expect it last longer than that. I'll be selling mine and warning others not to buy.

This is probably the most ignorant thing I have read in weeks. Unless you are have issues that can not be resolved or the engine is just not suitable then why wouldn't you recommend.
so you can't buy a lifetime warranty yet. Big deal, I tried to look up a lifetime warranty on a Cummings and couldn't find one. does that mean it's going to fall apart after 120,000 miles. I think not my dad's 97 12 valve turned over a million miles before Christmas and it's still on the original auto trans.

To the OP I wish I could give you some input on the engine and granny but I can't I have a 4.7 and 6SPD. But I can tell you the rest of the truck is great. The ride, handling, seats are great even in my Tradesman, and the cab is super quiet.
Good luck
Mick

I'm at 14,xxx problem free kms at this point (95%) highway. I love the truck. It has been a cold winter, and I can't always plug it in overnight. It always starts (after an unplugged night at -38 I was a little surprised).

I've had mine since August and it has been trouble free. The milage is very impressive, as well as ride, interior, performance, comfort, etc. etc. etc.
