Default How long does it take?

Since Dodge has decided to take the option away from their gas trucks to have a manual transmission. I ended up having to buy my first automatic transmission truck. I am 46 years old, bought my truck in July, and still find myself reaching for the gear shifter from time to time. But, what is worse is when I am rolling up to a stop sign and go for the clutch and hit the brake pedal with my left foot!

After thirty years of manual transmissions, how long will it take to get lazy?

P.S. It took me a couple years to get use to the stupid dimmer on the turn signal stock. When that change came around.

I don't understand why they can't or won't put manual shift transmissions in the Rams. Could you imagine how fun shifting would be with 390 hp and 3.92 gears?

LOL!...yeah, that's just the way our brains work. My last 3 personal vehicles and all work related vehicles have been column shift. Whenever I get into my wife's car with a floor shift, I invaiably reach for the column. We are creatures of habit.

Until recently, I had 4 motorcycles, a 1995 camaro and a jeep liberty.....all with six speed manuals. I got rid of the car and the jeep for the truck several thousand miles ago and I have not gotten used to it yet either.

I opted for a clean 08 vs new for that very reason. Not ready or willing to give up the stick just yet. For what its worth, I think you got the better engine. My trucks a joy to drive, but the 4.7 is kinda gutless

You could always get a dead pedal and then tape you foot to it. But yeah, it'll take some time befor eyou get used to it. Unfortunately there's just not enough of a market for the manual transmissions compared to the modern auto. Too many people want to be able to tow with these things and put in cruise at 80mph and not have to worry about anything.

I know the market is down for manual transmissions, some dealers in the bigger towns will not even let you trade one in, Had one in 1995 that would not even let me order one with a manual. They said they knew that I would be trading it in after a few years and they would not be able to sell it! But had another dealer that wanted to take $1,000 of on trade-in because my truck had scatches inside of the bed, and they would have to repaint it before they could sell it!

I haven't owned a manual tranny since 98 and quite driving commercial in 2001 and I still find myself going for the clutch once in a while. I don't believe it ever really goes away LOL

PS: After going to an auto I will never own another manual tranny! I decided that about 6 months after buying my first auto.

I feel your pain brother. Like anything else, it'll lessen with time. I did that quite a bit for awhile when I switched over to an auto...

I've got 2 others cars that have a manual, so I've been able to train myself to use the left foot when it's needed, but to keep it firmly planted on the floor when it's not.

mind over matter...
