i have the Diablo Trinity. It does have the original back up option. But i had my truck on 93 octane performance and when i reprogrammed it to Gas milage booster it said. "Copying Original Backup" then it wrote the program. My thought is it took the 93 octane performance tune and saved that as the original backup.

I got myself into a little mess here haha, downfall of being a GearHead

Do you recall if the overall diameter of the converter was the same or smaller than the stock one? Also, do you remember if the case of the converter (engine side) was the same as the stock (with the bolt holes welded on and such) or if it was machined from a single piece of billet?

If you can remember these two things then that would help a lot....

No it should still retain the factory tune. You should be able to tune it back to stock at any time...

I'd try tuning it back to stock and see what happens. I've heard that the diablo tuners change the TCC lockup schedule, so maybe this is the problem...?

Ive had the Trinity for about 4 months now. Never had a problem. Just when i installed the torque converter this past weekend it when it started.

Oh! and yes the new converter looked very very identical to the stock. Same diameter same bolt holes welded on. just a different color. i have pictures

I understand that the tuner was fine and then you installed the converter later and then had issues, but you should revert the programming to stock to diagnose any issues and troubleshoot the problem. Since the tuner may change the TCC lockup schedule, it would be best to go to stock tune to see if the problem is still there. If it is, then you can rule out the tuner as the problem.

The fact that it was the same diameter is probably a good thing. The fact that the bolt holes are welded on means it is not a billet converter. Not to knock your purchase or anything, but this means it is one of the "cheaper" converters. Now that doesn't necessarily mean it is a total POS, but I'd bet it has the stock clutch at best. There is a chance the converter is from another vehicle (like a car) and has a weaker clutch. I doubt this though as normally the car converters are smaller in diameter. I still suspect the converter, but I'm also not saying it's definitely a POS, but it could be as it is on the cheaper end for converters...

I hope this helps at all, I'd definitely try the stock tune first, then get in touch with TCI and hopefully they'll help you out.

Something else I noticed on that link is that they advertise flash stall rpm, which is kind of weird, I thought true stall was what was always advertised...
