Default rear window swap

just wondering if anyone has swapped out their rear solid window for a sliding one before and how they did it? if you know of a write up and can post the link that would be appreciated too

I just had the rear window replaced in my '06 because one of my guys broke it. the slider that was there was completley removed, even the good panels, and an entire new sliding "kit" window was installed, including all panels.
It was done by Giant glass, and my employee paid for it since he was borrowing the truck at the time when he broke it. total cost was around $450.00 installed.

I am having the local glass shop do mine, that way it's warrantied for any leaks, etc... Was $449 even installed; I paid 50% as I wanted the slider when I ordered the truck and the dealer dropped the ball.

they are glued in, so you could probably remove one from a junkyard (or buy it if they have already removed it) and remove yours and bring it to a local glass shop and have them install it, that way it wont cost as much. if you do remove yours, make sure you get all the old glue off and clean it up good before you bring it to the glass shop

sliders are great I love mine, but I've had bad luck with mine had replaced twice by professional with the glass directly from dodge, in both cases they started leaking within a year in the sliding tray so every time it rains my bench and floor get soaked. and professionaly installed it only came with a 90 day warranty because they say it has moving parts. but I had both times replaced for free. Check you auto insurance I live in KY. I'm sure all states are different but in KY up to 1 time a year you can get a free auto glass replacement, no deductable, its considered a claim but it doesnt affect your premium, but will not replace if only leaking.

I pulled a rear slider from a local you pull yard during the summer. Cost 50.00 other than the latch is broken for the slider. It wasnt to hard to cut the old glue out with the wire cutter.

Id like to save the money and install my self, not sure were you would get the black glue from?

Any ideas on were you can find the glue or what it is?

Thanks

You can pick up the window urethane from just about any body shop supply store. It'll come in a tube that'll fit in a caulking gun.

One other thing...don't let the junk yard tell you this one or that won't work. They are interchangeable as a unit from 94-01. The difference being 94 to 96 has two sliders that meet in the middle. 96-01 has a single slider.

I might be a little off on the year, but the footprint is the same if you pull the whole thing and aren't looking to just replace one pane.
