Angry Instead of Starting another thread.....

I just came home from the dealership because my truck started making a loud rubbing noise when I accelerated. After sitting in the waiting room for 2 hrs, I was told my drive shaft is bad and will likely seize on me sooner or later if its not fixed right away.

Problem is, they cant fix it! The dealership made some calls for the part and it appears the drive shafts are on national backorder! WTH do I do now? Is this even gonna be covered by my warranty?

your truck should have 100,000 mile power train warranty so yes it should be covered. if i were you call this number 1-866-726-4636 main chrysler number tell them your problem and tell them you need a loaner. i got one free of charge till i my truck was repaired. good luck to you.

Some dealerships are still playing dumb (or are). I had mine in there a couple weeks ago and the SA acted like he never heard of this issue. Which means he's either full of shit or terribly out of touch with his product - neither of which is a good thing.

Thanks. I've been concerned about driving the truck and having something happen. As soon as I can step away from work and get the VIN off my truck, I'll give them a ring.

From my experience at the dealership on yesterday, they seem to be aware that the issue has been pretty common.

My pinion nut appears to have backed off as there is oil splattered all over my rear end. My truck goes in tomorrow to have the exhaust manifold replaced, and I'll have them look at the rear end as well. I still have a dealer warranty as I am the 2cnd owner of the truck, no lifetime power train warranty. I also filed a complaint on the website provided, ALL 2009 and 2010's should be affected by this recall. My build date is 1/09, and currently not included. here is a link to my pictures.

I think I may be in the same boat as you as I am the second owner of the truck. Does that mean the power train warranty is no good, for sure? i did get the dealer warranty when I bought the truck which was suppose to cover everything for 5yr/70k miles..... Hopefully my drive shaft will be covered.

It should be covered. I only have a 3 month/3000 mile warranty with the dealer. After that, I had planned on re-gearing to 4.10's, probably voiding any service contract, so I never bothered with an extended warranty. The 2009 year 100,000 power train warranty is only good for the original owner and not transferable. Dodge needs to wake up on these pinion nuts and include ALL years before someone is killed.

I just got a recall notice over this issue today . Dodge is aware of the problem it seems , however the recall notice says parts are currently unavailable and wont be till early next year .

Ditto, but only 23K on mine. However, I have a 2010 1/2....it was built in April 2010. That doesn't necessarily alleviate my concerns over these rear ends. I planned on going to 4.56, so I didn't get the extended warranty either and I'm also not the original owner. Good news, if it starts giving me trouble, I'll trade it (or private sale) since it's paid for. My problem is that the Ram is the best looking full size out there. I like the Chevy brand, but I personally think the trucks are ugly. I refuse to drive a Ford and I'd rather not buy foreign (never have), but the Tundra's are nice looking.

Still....it makes me wonder when they exactly figured out when the pinion nut needed a retainer (or at least some loctite). I would think most 2010's were built in 09 and having a second run of these trucks, I'm very curious as to what changed and whether or not I should be concerned about this rear end...
