Is this happening to the 3:92 or the 3:55 rears or both?

Don't know for sure but this is what I have seen...
The shorter drive shafts (like in the 4x4's) are steel.
The longer shafts are larger diameter and aluminum.

I'm wondering if mine is getting ready to go out?
I bought the truck used 8 months ago.... 49,000 miles on her.

I've developed a "shimmy" for lack of a better word right around 40mph.

I originally thought it was electrical but the more I drive it the more I believe it is definitely mechanical.

I also have a slight " buzzing " noise when the truck is under load. I thought it was a loose exhaust pipe or heat shield...now the more I read the more I think everything is the driveshaft getting ready to go...

Also, my average MPG has dropped from over 18 down to 15....

Hope you all get your problems fixed for this is makin me depressed. Trying to invest in American brand again after many years and just don't know anymore. Go and read some ecoboost forums and you'll see, they too are having shifting/powertrain complaints. The madness will never cease...........

Default 2009 ram drive shaft falls off

driving the other day, all of a sudden hear a humming sound. call local dealership to book it in for an appointment. ome minute later driveshaft falls off, rear end locks up. put in four low to drag truck off road. Apparently all pieces in my rear axel are pooched. I say that dodge might have a bit of a problem with this one. local dealership awesome, stuff happens, love my truck. by the way never put a load on it.

I'm with all those that are stressing about the idea of this catastrophe happening to their truck, so I had the pinion nut checked on my truck yesterday, everything is still tight, but I am taking an extra preventative step. I spoke to a rep at a local reputable shop today and he agreed that applying a blue type of epoxy (which can be removed) to the outer threads without disturbing the pinion nut was a descent idea aiding in preventing the pinion nut from backing off for whatever reason. For me this is extra piece of mind!

Are you referring to Loctite Blue?

http://www.amazon.com/Loctite-37418-.../dp/B000FIXQXK

I have my Ram on a lift and the pinion nut can not be Loctited without removing the driveshaft.
Your Dealer should have applied the blue Loctite when they had it apart.
Photo shows where the nut is in RED...I doubt your dealer checked the nut.
