Well a little update. Monday I called Crysler NA and opened a claim. The guy Matt was very informative and helpfull. I told him all the details, he put me on hold and called the dealer where my trucks sits. 185mi from home.
He said he would do everthing in his power to get me back on the road ASAP. He even called Enterprise rental and got me in a 2012 Ram 4dr 1500 4x4 slt. Happy. The 1st one had 6,700 miles. While at work I noticed a drip under the rfront of the truck. Power steering fluid leak. Really on a 12?? Called and replaced it with the same truck but with 15k and all is well.
Have not heard from the dealer but they WILL be getting a call tomorrow.
And I can use the rental to get my truck and leave that up there.

Fingers crossed

Default Just happened to mine...

Driving home last night, turning in an intersection and there drops the drive shaft. It had been making a noise on the way home, said to myself I need to take it to the shop tomorrow, and right before I get home it falls off. It is sitting in the lot this morning at my local dealership that I get all my service done at. Have all the "vehicle checkup" records showing where they signed off on all points on my truck, no concerns each time. Waiting to hear back from the service department on warranty information and specifics of the repair.

Default Update #2

Sorry to hear that JW153500, did your rear axel lock up too?? Hope not. Looks like you have an Alu driveshaft? Is yours 2wd quad or crew cab??
No matter what call Chrysler and let them know. WE NEED 2 B HEARD!! 800 992 1997 OR 866 726 4636.It's been 2 weeks to the day today that my truck broke. I called the dealer today and it looks like the back orderd parts wont be available untill August 1st. Are you freaking kidding me!!!! If they dont have the parts and can't get the parts I'm sure we are not the only ones!! This is absurd and I'm being nice!! This is total B/S in my book.

Took the drive shaft loose today to do an exam of the pinion nut. All seemed tight so I cleaned it up and applied Loctite to the exposed thread.
Posting this photo so others can see the infamous nut.

Wow, reading this is very scary. Im going to drop the driveshaft and if everything is tight i will do the loctite (thanks for the pic westxsrt10). I was just wondering would it be a bad idea to stake the nut just to be extra safe?

I did that with mine, checked to make sure everything was tight, then had the threads covered with locktite and they peened the edge of the pinion nut in 2 places, no way it will back off now.

Did you guys take the nut off and put locktite on? Or just on the end threads with the nut on...if so how will that prevent it from backing off? What am I missing?

If you remove the nut to apply Blue Loctite be sure to buy a new nut, compression preload ring and washer, then torque to factory specs.

I had one thread showing so I cleaned it with acetone and applied Red Loctite (better than doing nothing IMO). Center punching the nut in 4 places is another option.
