Default MPG on a 2500 With Hemi

Anyone have any idea the MPG a 2500 with the Hemi? I know towing will be low but was wondering about Hwy mileage empty.

Don't know why you're asking, but if I were to buy a 2500 it would be a diesel. I get 16 average in my 1500. I like my 1500 and it's all I need but if I needed a 3/4 ton it would be a diesel. I towed a 10K lb toy hauler a couple of weeks ago and got 9 MPG. I did have plenty of power though. Just bottomed out the rear springs. I only tow this trailer 2 times a year so it doesn't justify a 2500. air bag are on order.

Not interested in paying the price for a Diesel truck. Like you I only tow my Toy hauler 3-4 times a year long distance (300-400 miles) and the other time it's only 50-60 miles. Trailer weighs between 7000-8000lbs depending on what I take. I have been over the scales so I know the weight is accurate. The rest of the time its back and forth to work 6 miles one way and trips to see the grandkids 400 mile round trip. I need to get resonable hwy mileage when empty. My current Ram 1500 only has the 3:55 gears so its not great for towing the R.V. I have an Excursion with the V-10 but its just 2 of us and it really drinks the fuel. I plan on getting rid of it and the current ram and replace with one vehicle.

Mine has the 3.55 gears as well but like I said, it had more than enough power. I pulled 70 plus MPH over the mountain pass here in Utah. The trailer is 7500 net and I had it loaded so I guessed around 10K lbs. My biggest concern was the trans temp which I had the gauge pulled up and watched the whole time. My next biggest concern was the rear axle since the bump stops were ridding on the axle, the next time I pull it will have air bags. I would like the 3.92 gears just for the off the line pull. The only weakness was my rear springs, the toy hauler has a 1050 lb tongue weight empty, so it was pretty heavy.

This is really a loaded question. I have seen as high as high 17's on the highway empty at 65 to 5.5 hauling my 10k 5fiver.
I depends on wind, type of fuel, terrain, weight of your foot, length of drive, 2x4 or 4x4, etc.
If other 2500's are like mine you will not see a consistent mileage. I'm to the point I wish Dodge had never installed a mileage meter.
If you're going to tow just turn off the gauge or it will worry the pi$$ out of you.

Will a 2500 Hemi tow 8k lbs? You bet. Without an issue.

Update: Decided on 1500 model with 3:92 gears. Picked it up on Saturday. Thanks for the replies.

Hey so we have a 2011 Ram 2500 with a hemi, I have noticed that with my gooseneck and 2 horses loaded weighing about 9K, 9-12 mpg. With our toy hauler it weights about 9140 lbs empty nothing it, no fuel nothing, truly empty, we got 6-8 mpg with nasty wyoming wind. It is my wifes ride and she loves it. It has 3.73 gears, with an auto and 4x4. I hope that helps ya.
