Default Paint issues with Hunter Green Metallic

Hey all! i am the owner of a 2011 Ram Sport , which is finished with Hunter Green Metallic Paint. The truck is only 8 months old and i am having some paint issues. The truck is currently in the shop having the drivers side fender painted due to a misaligned Bumper. I am just wondering if anyone else has had these issues. This paint is beautiful, however, when you're into detailing your truck like i am . I take notice of every small thing, and i have spotted a few places with lack of clearcoat, and an almost faded looking section at the upturn ridge of the tailgate. Input on this matter would be appreciated!

There are many reported issues on Ram paint on this forum and other forums. Do a search. The thing is in most cases there is no fix other that a repaint.

I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500, that is Brilliant Black in color, and I have had problems with the paint as well. It is mainly on the hood area of the truck on the left side of the hood if you are facing the truck from the front. I noticed it after I had my truck for probably, say a year, give or take. I have to agree with you 100%. It looks as if its from a lack of clearcoat. There is only spot and it is a good size spot. It looks like that rainbow color of oil on the road. An this makes me mad considering it is a black truck. Everyone knows that the color black on a vehicle shows everything and I mean everything. I don't know what to do. I detail my vehicle nearly every weekend when I am off from work and I have tried buffing it out. I use Meguiars cleaning products mainly and some Turtle Wax ICE products as well. I am not going to be a happy person if I have to have my entire truck repainted due to the fact of the manufacturer was trying to be cheap and save on the cost. Hope you and I can figure out a resolution with our trucks and the paint on them. If anyone has any more info on this problem please let me know, I will keep an eye on this post, and may I say great post "ramsportcc57".

You both probably have a base coat problem. Have a good body shop tech check out your trucks. I fear the only real fix will involve repainting.

I figured that was what I was going to have to do. I will always love my truck and the DODGE name but I have to say that I feel Chrysler makes there products cheap.

IMO factory paint on most new vehicles (all brands) are lacking top notch quality. I have a buddy with a body shop and he has shown me that most factory paint jobs are good but not great....as customers we call them defects they call it normal issues with mass produced products.

I hope you get the problems taken care of!

Default factory paint problems

First off I also had a small area that seemed dulled on my tailgate. I know it sucks because after paying that much money for a new truck you want that top notch paint job but the robotic painters at the factory dont always perfect paint jobs. I work in a body shop and I cant even begin to count how many dealers have brought in new cars for repaints due to poor clear coats. Also sometimes the dealers try to buff the cars themselves after a long winter or something to give it that shine and more times than not burn through the clear. to fix mine i just used a small amount of wet sanding with 2000 grit sand paper and buff and polished. Its not perfect but brought back most of the shine.. just a suggestion hope it helps
