Default Risks of tuning?

I am looking at getting a tuner for my 08 Ram. I have the 5.7L. I have my eye on the Diablosport Predator. Are there any risks involved with tuning? I really dont want to end up with a blown engine, or a computer that needs replacing. thanks!

A mainstream tuner like diablo sport or anything like that is on the more conservative side of things tuning wise. They are called "can" tunes and are thought up with the intentions of being used everywhere in the world, much ike stock tunes and dontreally push the envelope anywhere.

There is always a freak accident as with anything, but you are 99.99999999999% safe when using a tuner like that

You may risk less MPG if you can't keep your foot off the pedal - ZOOM. The DSP is a great tuner and easy to use.

Probably the only element in one of these aftermarket tuners that could involve potential damage would involve timing and fuel mixture. If the tuner had the capacity to increase timing and lean out fuel mixture to the point where serious, continuous detonation could occur, you could obviously damage the engine. Still, you'd probably have to be deaf not to hear the constant "pinging" that was singaling this condition. I don't think most of the quality programable units out there have pushed the limits that far. Those that allow true laptop manipulation of most/all of the fuel and timing elements by an end user in a computer could cause damage if you didn't pay attention to what you were doing. As SS4luck stated, most of these programmers use fixed, optional choices that are withing a relatively safe envelope.

"canned" tunes are very safe (like superchips and diablo). If you do custom tuning there is a risk if you don't know what you are doing.

just make sure you update any tuner when you get it..the dsp has been around long enough that they have fixed the early bugs...I made the mistake by being one of the very first to get one when released..it jacked my tranny up... but i still have it and it works nice now..
