Default Magnaflow 22" clarification

I have been reading everything that I can find on here about the 18 and 22 inch Magnaflows trying to determine which one I want. With the 22", I find mostly contradictions because some love it and other say that it is quieter than stock. I am thinking that the contradiction may be due to the high number of "Sport" models being converted. My truck is an Express and I cannot imagine it being quieter than mine, but in my research, quite a lot of the trucks on youtube are considerably louder than my truck stock.

For you guys that have went with the Magnaflow 22 inch muffler on a non-sport Ram, What is your impression and thoughts? How does the 22 inch compare to your stock sound?

I have the 22 and y pipe and love it. I did not want it to be very loud but most important I didn't want drone. I think it's perfect. I have a very sonic, aggressive sound but it isn't so loud it drives you crazy.

Thanks Nutshell,

I am planning to buy one tonight and was leaning toward an 18 inch Magnaflow, but I am already second guessing that decision. I am scared that the 18 inch will be louder than what I want but I cannot find much in the way of sound clips for the 22 inch muffler. tha only one that I have found has the stock sound much louder than mine. you do not have a sound clip of your I don't suppose?

Does anyone know the Magnaflow stock number for the 22" weld-in muffler?

I'm coming from single stock exhaust to the 22" cat back maganaflow. Of course this is a big difference, but I can also tell it's more aggressive compared to one who has stock dual exhaust. It's not the loudest thing but it's not quiet either.

One last question and I will shut up and let you guys answer. I have heard that the rounder the muffler the more drone it makes. With that said, which muffler do you guys think would sound better,

#12388 5"x8" oval at 24 inches long or
#12588 5"x11" oval at 22 inches long?

Also, if it matters, I will be adding in a #10788 Magnaflow Y-Pipe at the same time.

Brad

I have a 2010 sport and went with the 22" magnaflow (PN#12588) and I also deleted the resonators. I can tell you that it's a hell of a lot louder than stock... from the outside, I think a lot of people miss interpret lack of drone for lack of volume.

At idle its really tame but as soon as you put your foot into you know you have performance exhaust under your truck. I absolutely love my set-up and wouldn't trade it for anything else out there. A buddy of mine has the 14" muffler with the resonators still in place and when we rev it up its hard to tell them apart, but on the highway I've got the quite truck and he's got a droner.

If you are looking for sound clips of the 22" look for clips of the cat-back since the 22" muffler is the one that comes in the magnaflow cat-back kit.

Its not the rounder the muffler, it's the case size (overall volume) that effects drone since it has less packing. The 5x11x22 is slightly louder on the exterior of the truck but has less drone in the cab where The 5x8x24 is slightly quieter on the exterior but will induce a bit more drone in the cab (in theory)

The y-pipe doesn't really affect sound but it will give you better flow, its more about performance than sound.

Thanks guys, I think you answered my questions. I think that I an going with the 12588 22" instead of my original route of the 18 in.

Thanks again.
