Default Re-did my headliner....

Pulled my sagging headliner out last week when I pulled the dash. A couple of days ago I used 3-m spray adhesive to recover in grey velour. I have used it before and it worked great. Ran out 3/4 of the way through and picked up a can of Premetex spray adhesive to finish the job. I also painted all the do-dads that hold up the headliner, sunvisors and clips, overhead curtesy lights, & coat hangers using the the same grey that I used on the dash. I installed it all last night and everything went swimmingly. Here are some before and after pics....

Here are the custom made saddle blanket seat covers and dash cover034.jpg

035.jpgProbably going to re-order a grey dash cover, I'm not too thrilled with the black.

Now the problem today is that, The headliner is sagging again where I used the 3-M adhesive. The Premetex is still holding strong. I am soooo ticked off after all that work. I'm guessing it was the heat loosening it up. The problem I'm running into is that the Premetex is holding so strong, I can't get to the 3-m areas without tearing the foam underneath..... I guess next weekend I'll be hitting the junkyards again to find another headliner. Also next week, I be replacing the front bumper. Stay tuned......

Looking good, sorry the first time didn't hold firm. Hope the work continues to be a positive experience.

Looks like you did a good job; I did my headliner last year using the Permatex and it began to sag over the winter. The only way I can think of guaranting that it's gonna stay is to stitch the fabric in all the corners after I redo the headliner. You also need to take your time with the glue and let it tack up properly before applying the two pieces again.

Hey guys, Im about to redo the headliner in my '98 Ram. After reading this, Im now worried Im going to do all the work for nothing if the headliner falls. Spacejunkie, what was the end-result of your work, now that so much time has passed?
Which adhesive ended up working the best?
Any info you guys can give would be great!

Default Headliner

I was in a hurry last year because I pulled a perfect headliner out of a '97 at work. As luck would have it, it was 4 inches too narrow.

I didn't want to put the old one back in so I ran out and picked up the new fabric made for headliners. I used 3m adhesive and two weeks later it was sagging.

I knew better because I've done them before. Went out and bought some "Heads Up" headliner adhesive at the local auto parts and re did it. Been holding ever since.

I have had success with this kit in the past and the price isn't too bad. In my Regal, after 2 years it held pretty well.
