Default Paint Vararam intake, someone help.

I am looking for some help with painting a Vararam Intake cover. What steps did you follow to get good adhesion? Did you use high temp paint? Clear coat? Primer? Adhesion promoter? I plan on painting it Hemi Orange. Thanks for all of your help, your knowledge is invaluable. Also, if anyone has pics of their painted Vararam intake post it here!

What material is it?

They make Hemi Orange in an engine block paint (obviously lol) I would just scuff it up a bit and paint the thing.

I painted mine to match the color of the truck. I prepped by scuffing with sandpaper. Wiping down with rubbing alcohol. Primed with DupliColor primer. Two light coats and then one heavy. Dried according to instructions. Then did 4 light coats of DupliColor Bright Silver Metallic followed by a wetsand and one more heavy coat. Then applied 4 coats of clearcoat. Wet sanded before final coat. Turned out good have had it on now for about threee weeks. No signs of any peeling or anything like that. I was happy with my first attemp at painting. I just took my time and followed the instructions on the can.

I would recommend the above steps, but I would also suggest using an adhesion promoter prior to the primer to get proper bonding between the primer and plastic.

so let me get this right. Scuff sand, adhesion promotor, then primer, paint, and finally clear? Could anyone explain the process to apply adhesion promotor. also, should I be using high temp paint? do they even make high temp primer and clear coat? thanks for all of the support guys.

You don't need high temp paint, if the intake is getting over 110F than you're in serious issues outside of a hot intake. The adhesion promoter is treated just like any other spray bomb, make sure the area is clean, then spray 1-2 light coats.

The only time you need to be looking at high temp is if you're doing metal parts directly connected to the engine like the timing cover, heads, headers, etc. plasic parts do not need high temp paint as most paint will handle 250-300F and the plastic itself starts melting/softening at the same temp.

You have to remember the great thing about Vararams...that lid is in a sealed area between the hood and the lower tray...with outside air being rammed in there like it stole something

And no...mine is still black.
