Default 4WD Auto Question

Just a general question here:

When my truck is in 4WD auto, I'm assuming that the 4WD doesn't kick in unless traction is lost at one of the rear wheels? In that case, if I leave it in 4WD auto and it never needs to kick into 4WD, will I get the same gas mileage as if it was left in 2WD?

Viking55 is on a distinguished road

Yes but if never needs to go to 4wd I wouldn't have it on auto.
