So if there is no difference 'tween stock and after market - except perhaps the filter - why do you get that nice sound with the aftermarket intake and not with the stock?

I had a Volant on my F150 and loved it - will likely do same now to my new 2011 RAM. My buddy has the MOPAR he took of his '09 (available at the right price) but I'm not sure it will work on my 11 and I've not found anyone to tell me for sure. But I prefer the look of the enclosed Volant - and on the Ford version it included a "scoop" that sucked air thru the hole down in the bumper - does the Dodge one not have that???

Thank u everyone lol this is gonna be a tough decision to make because I always put a K&N intake system in any of my vehicles and love the sound of it. But this is different to me because this is my very first dodge plus the biggest motor I have owned lol and I don't wanna waste money on somethin that won't make a big difference in performance u know.

I put a k&n cai on my 07 and I noticed better throttle response and I love the sound. It also increased my mpg.

Smile Can't post this anywhere else

I am sorry if this is the wrong place, but for some reason I can not post it anywhere else. (Maybe since I am so new). My question is somewhat similar to this situation. I bought my 03 Dodge Ram with the Hemi recently and it is pretty rough. I do not currently have any air filter on my truck(Bad I know). As I slowly replace parts , this is one of the ones I want to get to immediately.
My questions is: Instead of buying an all new air filter(Need the whole assembly, not just filter) would it be better to just buy a cold air intake? Hopefully you guys know what I mean. Sorry again that this is in the wrong section and I hope I can get some help.

Before any purchases, I would definately check out the Vararam. It's looks sick under the hood and its the only one I heard that actually has performance gains. Sounds awesome too.

I will have to do that, but I guess my question would be... do I need an air filter and cold air intake? Would I need any of the air filter pieces when installing the air intake? Of right now I am missing the whole air filter system. (Big black air filter box)

I would just replace the stock air filter with a K&N people always get hung up on "having to have" a new intake because they want to go fast!!! Save your money for something that WILL actually put you back in your seat like a supercharger... In a year you could have enough money for that right? Unless you have buckets of cash lying around go ahead and get an after market intake if not then i say wait and spend your hard earned cash where it counts! Or not.... Just my .02

Well, see that's my dilemma. I have no stock air filter. And looking on eBay it looks like the stock air filter kit is in similar prices to the cold air intakes. I'm just curious if I can have one without the other. Not really looking to go faster, but if I have to shell out the money anyway, wouldn't I rather get the cold air intake than the air filter?

I think those other posts were replies to the OP's question, not your's. To answer yours, I would say buy whatever is cheapest for you and put it on as fast as you can! It won't matter what kind of intake you have if you blow the motor up from sucking a bunch of dirt into the intake. You probably could scrounge up a cheap stocker at a salvage yard.
