Default Goodyear Eagle GTII replacement tire, what do you use now?

I'm sure anyone that has tried to get a set of Goodyear Eagle GT II tires for either their SST Ram or Indy Ram has been informed that they are no longer available from Goodyear. 15 inch is available, but for some reason the P275, 60R17 size is discontinued.

Sort of disappointed by the news, but what are you going to do. So I began my quest to find a replacement tire from Goodyear. They only have one model, the RSA Eagle. It doesn't seem to get too good of reviews.

So then no Goodyear, what other "American" branded tire can I get. I am trying not to rice out the truck with an import tire. I need a sport tire, not a "trail" tire. I use to have goodyear wranglers on my first truck. The Goodyear Eagle GT II definitely had a lot better grip. Plus no annoying squealing of the tires breaking loose on a 35 mph turn.

I ran into my local Discount Tire and started looking around. I also stopped in a Firestone dealer later that day. I really didn't find what I was looking for. But I did come across 3 tires that sort of fit what I was looking for at Discount Tire, except they are foreign made.

1. Falken Ziex S/TZ-04 (149 each)
2. Hankook Ventus ST RH06 (167 each)
3. Yokohama Geolander H/T-S G051 (182 each)

I am trying to stay under 200 a tire so these would work. The only problem is I have not had any experience with any of the brands. My brother has a set of Yokohama's on his Mazda 6 and they wore awesome, with plenty of bite.

I know there are reviews on the Discount Tire site, but I would like to hear some input from SST/Indy Ram owners.

If you have a different tire than what I saw, or bought it at a different place, let me know what worked for you.

Thanks!!

-Justin

I just bought a set of Nitto 420s for mine. I haven't gotten them put on yet since I am in Iraq until May or June. I had the Nittos on my 07 Ram with 22's they were 305/45/22's and I got 47k miles on them and they still had life left when I sold the truck. If I can get that from these I will be excited as heck. Plus I love the tread pattern, they give great wet/dry traction and handling is amazing.

Well, I didn't move fast enough to buy the hankook tires, if they were the ones to get. It looks like those are no longer available now at my discount tire or on their website.

Well that's one way to narrow the choices down.

I did not notice the nittos before. They look like racing tires. If I had 2 sets of rims I would definitely put a set on one. But what I need now is more of an all season sport tire.

I stopped in the discount tire and window shopped a little today. The guy at the counter said the falkens are popular with guys with plow trucks because they have a lot of traction in the snow. He said though that the falkens tend to wear out early before the rating if driven hard.

I was going to do some more looking around town this weekend but had to work on my truck and my dads truck this weekend. Pitman arm in my truck was wore bad. I had been putting it off since I don't have a heated garage. I'm glad I did though. The steering is nice and straight and there is no play whatsoever now.

I ended up jumping off the diving board and buying the Yokohama Geolander H/T-S G051 over the phone with discount tire this morning. After driving the truck through the snow this morning and getting absolutely no traction, due to the rear tires being bald, I decided over this set for now. I'm still thinking about buying a second set of rims for "summer" tires. I will post on this thread when I get some miles on them.

Well, I am now the owner of 4 Yokohama Geolander H/T-S tires. After the tires were mounted I left the store and drove around town a little and eventually found my way to the freeway.

First thing I noticed is the tires are incredibly quiet. They also were very well balanced. One tire did not even need a counter weight. And the other 3 were very minimal.

My drive around town from stoplight to stoplight really shined with these tires. It was wet outside and the truck seemed to do well through the large puddles. No hydroplanning around 45 mph. Once again, all I could hear was the engine, not the tires "humming".

The freeway driving was also very quiet. Just to compare I called my brother on my cellphone. Normally I don't use the phone while driving because its too noisy in the truck. (thats why I bought a JVC bluetooth radio) I could hear him no problem. I also noticed that the truck coasted much better. I'm hoping that maybe these tires will save me some money on gas. Only time will tell.

I will have to report back on this tread when I get some real mileage on the tires, to see how they hold up. But my overall impression was good.

I finally got around to take some pictures of the tires, with the poor weather and all. Sorry about the quality. I took them using my smartphone. Rims are dirty a little too. But at least you get the idea of what they look like mounted.
