Default Heating Problems

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L. I am having a problem with my heater. The left side blows cold and the right side blows warm. The left side will blow warm for about 10 to 15 seconds and will slowly go to cold. The floor blows cold. The only thing that blows warm is the defroster. I have recently found out that my coolant tank has a little crack in it around the lid (cap). Could this be causing the problem since it isn't able to build up pressure? The coolant has boiled over and the coolant level is low. Or do I have another problem? Also does anyone have a coolant tank for sell? I am having a hard time finding one. In my line of work you would think it would be easy, but nope... harder than I thought since they make so many different types. Here is the OEM part number... 5072602AA

I would fix the coolant leak issue first then see where you stand. After that, if you still have issues it could be the dash controls, and/or most likely a vacuum issue. Sometimes leaking vacuum hoses can cause similar issues. I'd start with that before buying a control unit. Best of luck and welcome!

Hello and welcome to the forum, glad to have you join us! Sorry to hear about your problem and I agree, I'd get the coolant problem fixed first and then see where you are with it. You might check out the 3rd gen heating and cooling section, too, here's a link: http://www.ramforumz.com/forumdisplay.php?f=190 but good luck and be sure to keep us posted! Lots of great people and info here, so any help you need, just ask and I hope you enjoy the site!
