Default First Repair Bill

First thing this morning, I put synthetic oil in and filled her up with some 93 octane. I knew it was coming, but I was trying to put it off for two weeks with the snow coming, and wait on my income tax check, but it did not happen. I knew the brakes were getting thin for the last week. Today, when I pulled out, I got the dreaded grinding slide of now shoe left on the brake. So, with a snow coming this afternoon, I figured I would have it done since I have no garage to work out of. I stopped at a small shop that I just happened to be passing. Well, when they got it on the rack, the drivers side tie rod end was almost falling off, and the passenger side was bad. All four pads were bad, and the rotors was chewed up on the back. When they called and priced the parts at list price, it was more than I had in my pocket at the time. I told them, I would just park it and bring it back in a week. They said hold on a minute, and came back with a price that was almost half of what I was just quoted. That was a relief. I don't know if I could have replaced two tie rod ends, four rotors and all pads for 450.00 plus tax.

The down side is my truck was too big to fit on their alignment machine, so I will have to get that done elsewhere. My tires are cupping, so the up side is I have an excuse for some new shoes when I get it aligned next week. It also seems to have cured my death wobble, and I almost threw me and my wife out of the front window with all the stopping power I have now. It is driving a ton better. And the engine seams to have quieted down a bunch with the synthetic oil change. I noticed it was running so much better, it took more run off time when coming down the ramp off the interstate at my exit. The truck only has 57000 miles on it.

Now the big question is what tires. I want something quiet, long lasting, good in the snow and rain. I don't do much off roading, and I tow a camper. Any suggestions?

Goodyear SilentArmor are the best tires I've ever had. I run them on my wife's Expedition, I had them on my F250, and I'll put them on my Ram after I get a couple years out of the stock tires.

first, i would be a bit upset if they gave me a high quote first and then came back with a reasonable price. i put cooper at3 on wifes grand cherokee . only have around 2500 miles on them, so far great in the rain and the one deep wet snow we had.

As Huntergreen said, cooper AT3 is a really good tire,
but the price for the AT3 is what kept me from buying them.
Check out TELSTARTIRE dot com ( look at the Turbostar AT or the Turbostar APR)
http://www.telstartire.com/tires/Def...ication=SUV-LT

Cooper makes the tires for TELSTAR, and they are far cheaper in price than cooper.
I put the TELSTAR "WINTERQUEST" tires on my truck, best traction i`ve ever had.
My traction control dosent even kick in anymore. Superb traction on wet roads.
When i hit water puddles, absolutly NO hydroplaneing whatsoever, not even snowdrifts.
I drive in some very deep snow here in the NE, these tires are F-in AWESOME.
My tires: 265/70/17 and M&B out the door w/tax was $600 bucks.
Bunch of people where i work, now have them, and LOVE them..!!!
Anyhow, just thought i`d throw that out ther for an option for ya.

I put Michelins on mine. They're the stock wheels for new F20's, I like em on my truck though. Not the grippiest, but I've had good luck.

I keep going back to the BFG Rugged Trail T/A.
They are not exceptional at anything, but very good at -
Quiet
Long Lasting
Grip on snow (decent on ice)
Grip on loose gravel
Competitive price

I haven't got them on my current Ram as they do not make them in the right 20" size. I will be getting the Rugged Terrain T/A this fall. I have heard they are comparable to the Rugged Trail tires I'm familiar with.

I have read many favorable reports on Coopers, Falkens, Toyos, etc, but have no experience with them.

I'm gonna go with the Cooper Discovery's when it's time to replace my tires. I've had 'em on previous vehicles, and had no complaints. There is a Cooper plant about 100 miles away, so they're pretty much a locally made item, and tend to be a lil cheaper, or no more than others around here.
