Default Why Not??

I have a new 2012 Outdoorsman with the Hemi. My best friend just bought a 2011 Crew GMC Z71 with a 5.3. We ran the trucks yesterday and we were pretty even. I wonder where my other 70 HP is? His truck is rated at 320 mine at 390. He has a 3.42 rear end and mine is a 3.92. I turned traction control off and put it in 5th gear. I will have to admit I was kinda disappointed. On trucks as equal as ours are I would think 70 horsepower would make a difference

I came home jumped on the internet ready to order the latest and greatest programmer to give my truck every benefit. It became clear there is none. I have defected from the GM camp myself where I have had a multitude of programmers on my trucks.

I find information here that says Chrysler has encrypted the software so that nobody can break the code. That does not make much sense to me. I understand that Chrysler is under pressure by the govt and cafe but why not make it easy for customers who want to turn off the MDS and increase horsepower at the cost of gas mileage can.

So I guess my big question is does anyone know why not?

They eventually will have to release the info. It took awhile for the 09-10 models to get a tuner as well. PCM swaps have been popular lately I believe!

Why not? Warranty claims. Easier to keep you out than to prove you did damage.

How far/fast did you race? I wouldn't expect more than a half second difference in a quarter mile if both trucks are stock. That's still "pretty even" and tires, suspension, driver skill, load are all enough to swing it.

My guess is about maybe a 1/8 mile + or - . I was running about 68 MPH. I guess I just thought having 70 more horsepower and 55 extra lb ft of torque. Plus having a 3.90 Rear End vs a 3.42 in the GMC. Has anyone elese had any kinds of these experiences. My Dodge salesman made it out that this truck would run away and hide from anything but an Ecoboost Ford. Of course you know the old saying "How do you know if a salesman is lying to you ?" His mouth is moving........

I guess I ask "Why Not" cause if the GM's and Ford and Toyota will stand up to it I figure the Ram would. If my buddy decides to put a Westers or a Diablo Tune in I dont have a chance.

I know when my truck was stock I could easily walk all over my buddy's chevy ext cab. I have been to the track and the only "trucks" that could get me were the single cab tundras.

Not sure if it is true in the newer dodges, but the transmission has taller gears than the chevy tranny. So, a 3.92 in a dodge isn't as aggressive as a 3.92 in a chevy, because of the transmission gearing. I have 3.92s, and my buddy had an 04 chevy rclwb with 3.55s, and he would rev to the same rpm as me and shift, but he shifted out of first at 32 ish, while I shifted out at 43 ish. We both had 33s on at the time, so the tires weren't a factor. I was still faster, though. lol

Huntergreen,

Well on the Window Sticker it says Hemi on the Badge on the Fender it says Hemi. Maybe they did make a mistake and put a 4.7 in there. LOL We were both surprised but I really thought that my truck would walk away. I'm 100% sure that he has no mods. Maybe its because it only had 150 miles on it. By reading the manual online it says 89 Octane for Optimal Performance. I think I will try that. Maybe the 2012 have a different tune in the computer?
