Default Rear hard brake line replacement...Need info..

Ok...2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 5.9....Blew Rear brake line above gas tank, the common place on these trucks....bought replacement hard lines to run from front distribution block on frame by front tire back. Started in front got old line disconnected and installed new line to front...go back to disconnect rear line at frame rail bracket where it goes into rubber line by frame and it appears that this has been all one piece comming from factory, no nut or compression fitting...I disconnected the soft rubber hose from this comming up from the rear axle distribution fitting, a small thin tube goes into the soft line. What is this part...is it able to be bypassed and if so how....from the way it looks the distribution block on the axle inlet will not accept a hard line. I have scoured every thread high and low and every online parts store and nothing comes up to what it is, only was mentioned on one thread, a guy asked what it was and nobody replyed...how do I get from 3/16 hard line to the soft line?

Welcome. Every truck I've ever seen had a hard line down the frame, then it had a soft line from that to the axle, then from there it had two hard lines(one to each wheel). I didn't exactly follow your description, is this what you have? You may have to get the soft line and distribution blocks from dodge.

I just did a quick check & couldn't find much

Welcome to the forum...

I know what you are talking about. I am in the same boat. Last year I blew out the section above the gas tank. What a mess!! From looking on the forums its a very common problem. I ended up replacing the hard line from the master cylinder to the distribution block on the front frame, to the rear converter block with JEGS stainless steel line (part number 635205). It should be 3/16" line. The kit comes with all the fittings you will need, minus the rear converter block. My block was ok, as well as the line across the axle, and the flex, so I didn't replace that part. I ran out of time and everything worked ok. Its on my to-do list this month.

I must warn you though, stainless steel line is a PITA to flare. I do enjoy the fact that my line will not rust out though.

Jegs also sells flexible brake line hose (630466).

I will try to look through my catalog tonight to see if they have something that may work for that converter block and your flexible line.

-Justin

I already bought the hard line and unions to get to the rear axle, the problem is this "distribution block" thingy attached to the frame that goes to the soft line going to the frame from the rear axle......how do I get from hard line to soft line? the soft line is just a piece of insulated line, distribution block on the axle is fine as are the lines from it going to the brakes....I think I have a odd set up from the factory, I have not seen any threads or diagrams or discriptions for this, and I bought truck new so I know it's not aftermarket or been somebody elses work. Is there a way to post pictures on here??
