Default Winter mpg this low normal?

I was scanning the 2011 dodge ram section and theres a post on mpg which started to get me wondering. So when i got my truck back in august i was getting 15-16 got my leveling kit and rims then i got 14-15 on regular 87 then when winter hit i noticed i was getting 10 mpg so i switched to premium 93 and now getting 10.9-11.8 with out engaging 4x4 at all. Is this normal? ik its not going to be getting good mpg but would atleast like to get 15. any ideas?

Yeah, in some cases it can be that bad, but that's with warm up times and winter fuel. You are sitting a little low though, most are getting 12-13 in the winter and around 17-18+ in the summer. When was your last tune up and inspection? How many miles, cai, exhaust, programmer?

Mine is in the crapper as well. Kurtis did nail it though in that yours seems a little lower than most. Mine nose dived with the cold weather and winter fuels. I'm down to 14 and lower. I had to put on some miles this weekend and I peaked at about 18 when I usually push 20 with a good highway run.

Last tune up was around September I got the plugs changed, and throttle body cleaned. The truck has 51k on her and bone stock performance wise. Do plan to do intake, programmer, and magnaflow 14 muffler in the future. I do have a leveling kit, and 33 inch tires but didn't notice a difference mpg wise.

I"m hoping to get a tuner by summer! i hear they help alot!

i just filled up with ethonal free today had about a 1/4 of a tank left. had to go an extra 15 miles on a long straight road so thought id do an experiment. reset the fuel mpg thing on the dash on the way there it told me i was getting 11.7 babied it the whole way there. filled up with ethonal free gas and told me i was getting 16 when i got home! ik its not a reliable test yet just going 20 or so miles but will tell ya guys how it did my next fill up!

How coated was the TB when you pulled and cleaned it? I'd run a can of saefoam through the system to clean out the combustion chamber, add some to the oil to break out any deposits (do this 1-200kms before your next oil change), and then run some injector cleaner through the system. Once you've done all that, reset the adaptives by either pulling (fuse 11, i think) or by disconnecting the battery for 20-30 min. This will force the computer to relearn new driving habits. Also, don't baby it, it needs to be driven hard every so often to keep the motor running properly, so when it's safe, floor it to get onto the highway ratehr than gradually build up speed. Yes, it will hurt MPGs if you do it too often, but it's healthy for the motor to have that WOT rush of air.

The first winter for me in 2010-11 I got low of 9 and up to 14 mpg. I have gotten 19.4 mpg on a trip we took the summer of 2010. That was family and our stuff as well. MPG's are tricky especially in the 5000 pound plus trucks. We put running boards/tubes on them and Bull bars, bigger tires a rims. That all adds to the weight of the truck. Not to mention the higher it is the more air goes under creating more drag. I love my RAM and if it got high teens around town I would love it even more. I do have the MOPAR CAI on it and I am planning on getting the DiabloSport Intune soon. I hope that can add mpg's. I am thinking at first it won't, due to the testing needed to evaluate the tuner, lol. I will post when I have some results after I get it.

I checked my MPG on a 400+mi round trip at the end of April that was 99.99% highway and got 13 and around town I got 10.2. This was with 265/70/17 tires and Vararam. I put 295/75/18s and had to wait till I got my Trinity to adjust the tire size. So I don't have any numbers with the new tires before the Trinity. I just filled up 28.3 gals at 3.779gal and got 9.08MPG with the 87 tune. The fill up two weeks before I got 9.2. All around town with a few short 5mi highway runs mixed in. I try to drive normally most of the time but as you all know it's not easy. I never expected this beast to get good gas mileage so I don't complain. Living 3.5miles from helps considering its 90% of my driving.
