Default CajunDodge (and others), I seek New Orleans info!!!

Heading to NOLA late April (the weekend before the jazzfest mayhem thankfully lol).

Any tips on what to do, where to go, what to eat, and where a couple of midwestern crackers should stay away from?

Wife wants to venture out and hit a beach, but Sunday is the only full day we have (she has a conference during the day M-W) but I don't think that I want to spend my only full day driving to MS for some sand.

We're staying in the Quarter. I was looking at everything from the zoo to the ww2 museum, looks like an interesting place to go. Definitely a "pack a spare camera memory card" trip.

Thoughts?

I am sure Cajun and others can give you more detailed info but the link below might help as well. Real people giving real reviews on hotels, restaurants and things to do.

The Zoo is nice, the WW2 museum is a must. The quarter in itself is an experience. Shame you guys cant stay for jazz fest. If you have any free time while your wife is in meetings, PM me to see if we can coordinate lunch or drinks or something. I am only 45 minutes out from N.O.

I agree on the Audobon Zoo and the Aquarium (which has an Imax theater), both are definitely worth taking the time to see! I've been to both several times and still come away feeling like I didn't see everything lol. My all time favorite place to eat is Brennan's, I make room for that every chance I get, absolutely awesome breakfast/brunch and if you go, have some Banana's Foster for me!!! A bit dressy but really not that expensive and the food is amazing! Cafe Du Monde makes a nice pit stop in the afternoon for that little coffee rush lol. I haven't been to the WWII museum yet but have heard nothing but good things about it and can't wait to see it for myself, waiting to go with my dad when he comes out in June. Just walking down Bourbon Street is an experience all to itself, any time of year, lots of souvenir shops and things like that. When I go for the weekend, I stay at The Ambassador on Tchoupitoulas Streed, really cool old hotel that I just love! I enjoy just walking down St. Charles Street, through the garden district, the homes are beautiful and with so much to see and do, one thing I will recommend, wear comfortable shoes! Hope you have a great time, NOLA doesn't disappoint!

Best place I've ever been! You're going to have a blast. They have the best food in the world, eat as much as possible lol.

We did the zoo it was good, did the aquarium and I don't remember that being all that great (all aquariums are the same to me though lol). Did the river ship cruise thing it was pretty cool, check out pat obriens dueling pianos and buy a hurricane. IMO all the ghost tours and all cemetery tours and all that are a waste of time, just some guy telling scary stories.

Don't walk down the roads that aren't on the "tourist" map or you may not come back

Expect to pay more to park your car than you spend on your hotel...

We are returning this year, just don't know when yet

^The whole town isn't formal! Just certain restaurants lol

After this thread I had a flashback about mother's restaurant, I think that was my favorite place to east while we were there...

Be sure to check out "the old coffee pot" it's just off of Burbon St and is "a must hit location"... It was featured on Food Networks' Diners, Dives, and Drive Ins.

also don't believe the hotel clerk if they tell you it's "not that far" to walk to the aquarium from the Quarter... LOL we made that mistake... catch a cable car on St Charles and take it to the aquarium... it'll make the experience at the aquarium that much more enjoyable.

The Zoo was awesome. There is more to do then you'll have time to do it. Just enjoy yourself and try to relax when and where you can

good luck, and we expect lots of pics when you return

Exco
