Default 2004 2wd Dually

I'm planning on lifting my 2wd Dually by 2-3 inches soon.
Now, when I looked under there earlier today I noticed there's only about 15mm travel between bump stop and chassis on the front. Is this normal or has it been lowered in a former life?
Also, is lifting it 3" too much? Will I have to change a whole load of other parts?
I've been looking at the spacers and blocks on fleabay, any good or just cheap shite ?
Any input gratefully received. Tom

I should add, it's purely cosmetic reasons for the lift and only use it as my toy. No off roading , just highway use.

Anyone? Am I the only one wanting to lift a 2wd Dually?

Well, due to the overwhelming influx of advice/tips, I've ordered the 3" lift kit and let you know how it goes!
