Default Sound System

The factory installed sub woofer in my truck is shallow - wimpy at best. The system is supplied by Alpine. My dealer informs me that Alpine does not have an upgrade available for this truck. Consequently, the aftermarket will have to be the solution. Recommendations would be appreciated.

JL Audio 8w3 with a Zapco ST1 amp. You may be able to go with a Zapco i250.2 amp but its not 2 ohm mono stable and the woofer only comes in dual 4ohm voice coils so you would need to run it at 8 ohm cutting the amp to half power compared to the ST1 which is 2 ohm stable on mono. These amps will give you the power and option to add some more low range without changing the head unit. This is if you want to use the factory space provided and not go more custom. This gear is not cheap and there are reasons for it...you can go cheaper but if I were you I would keep what I have.

Here is a link to a 12w3 install..the ST1amp would work as well but a new head unit would be recommended with 6 volt outputs and sub volume control...not bass but sub out put.

Another with two 10s (non JL) and factory unit

You can get the Kicker sub made for the Ram. It also fits under the back seat.

Huge fan of pioneer products myself which will be contrary to what most people will tell you in the shops. They have piercing highs and nice rich mids. Lows I would leave to a decent sub though. I like Elite line of pioneer too as they have better everything. From head unit, to amps, to speakers pioneer is one of my faves. Subs, I like soundstream, Kicker, and JL.

I would look into a JL audio stealthbox. The box is specifically made for the sub thats in it so it should sound great.

MTX has their thunderform which will go under the rear seat. MTX also has the most efficient subs on the market (atleast readily available without being over the top in price) and I have been thoroughly impressed with them time and time again.
Alpine is awesome at head units and components but until you get into a Type R or Type X sub they are inferior.
JL has built a reputation on quality and clarity but I really have not seen a benefit from them especially on cost compared to MTX.

If you'll simply adjust your front/rear fader to bring up the rear speakers - you'll hear the sub. I was skeptical until I tried it on my factory sub. The front speakers at the center position will overpower the rears and you won't hear the sub.

Set it 2 notches or 3 towards the rear and you'll notice a big difference. Also, set back the midrange by 2 notches.
