Default And this is the reason people despise the law....

So, watch the video and you decide. I can semi-understand the position of the officers not understanding the mans condition and using force to get him down (I guess), even if there was 5 of them and a couple were giving a few knees but what the **** is with the "Sgt" getting his kicks in? Granted, the use of force was a bit excessive to begin with but the officers couldnt have known the situation so you cant exactly fault them for the way they handled thing but the extra kicks was just RIDICULOUS.

This kind of thing is just so frustrating. If I get into a bar fight and kick someone like that, Im going to be going to jail and probably spend sometime there. But I guess its ok because they gave the man almost $300,000 so this officer should just get to walk.

http://www.mynews3.com/content/news/...MVm5HjYNw.cspx

Oh, and then he doesnt get prosecuted? And people wonder why the "Law" is hated so much....

I'd have to say that every officer I have ever met has a persona that they are above the law. I'm in no way saying that all officers are susceptible to an abuse of power, I just haven't met one yet.

I've run across off duty officers and they still give the impression that they're hot $hit on a silver platter and everyone is just cold crap on a paper plate.

Where I live it just seems like they want to charge you with whatever they want and it's up to you to prove that you're innocent. A classic example of trying to prove a negative.

For any officers that may be reading this and you feel that you are being stereotyped
I apologize if I've offended you, but like I said, I haven't met you and can in no way tell how you perform your duties.

I've wondered in the past when friends I've known and not seen in awhile pop up and say they were in jail for something-or-other and listen to their story.

It's called justice, but where does punishment end and revenge begin?

That was not easy to watch

It seems to be happening here in the San Diego area a lot more, not the beating of citizens so much, just misuse of authority

A police officer just went to jail for 9 years,
To the young women who got into trouble partying in San Diego’s popular downtown Gaslamp Quarter, officer Anthony Arevalos offered a way out: In return for sex, he would look the other way on traffic infractions
He did the same thing to several Ladies

Three San Diego firefighters, including a captain, have been arrested on robbery charges and one faces an additional charge of assault with a deadly weapon. They were OFF DUTY
They can continue working until the investigation is competed

You will soon be hearing about a Female Officer being brought up on charges
possible racial profiling & other injustices

All together there 9 officers that i voluntarily leaving the force, because of ongoing investigations

Please don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch folks. Remember that the majority of law enforcement officers uphold the law and protect us on a daily basis. Yes, there are some who should be shot...every day at dawn for a week...for abuse of power. I am not a cop but I have friends who are. Some of these guys/gals (at least in my neck of the woods) get paid $30K a year to confront hardened criminals and innocent people. Think about it. If you awoke to a person on your lawn or in your house in the middle of the night, and they do not respond to your questions, are you going to talk to them first or react accordingly? Yes, in this case the force was excessive but it is the exception, not the norm. Let's not be judgmental.

^ I agree with you ^

I also think in addition to what I said earlier...when an individual is clearly competent an officer should only have to issue a command once. If he has to repeat himself a second, third, or fourth time. I fully believe that the individual deserves the full brunt of whatever the officer has to do for the individual to comply, or to protect himself.

One thing to remember is we NEVER k ow the real situation. There is a million reasons why things happen. I have met a few police officers that I though were ***** but I have always deserved what I got when I really look at it. Police officers a lot of the time over paranoid but you don't know what they have to put up with on a daily basis. Thanks to all of the police officers that do there job and have the decency to look at the situation before they make a decision.

Just think of this, how many of you would have said 'he deserves what he got' if it had been a drunk driver? The ability to tell the difference between a drunk driver and a diabetic attack can only really be done by a paramedic. The news cranked it up saying he 'obviously' was not resisting, but if he wasn't resisting then it wouldn't have taken the original 3 to try to pin him to the ground, you could see them heave up a few times... yeah, not resisting. The bad part is, due to a diabetic episode, the driver really wasn't in complete control of himself, and unable to explain the situation.

Yeah I honestly didn't think it was that bad, maybe the kicks yes but otherwise they were just trying to force him to the ground and cuff him. Like said, they didn't know his state of mind, drunk, drugs, etc...

Most officers I encounter (unfortunately quite a few haha) are very good, fair, and yes paranoid, but I think that's a good thing, and you can't blame them as their life can be at stake at any moment.

I have a good friend who is a cop but only "part-time" as in evenings and weekends to help support his ex and kids. He pulled over a car at four in the morning for a minor speeding violation. A young lady was driving. She was completely sober and cooperative. Her male passenger was just a little fidgety so my friend called for a car to back him up. They asked the male passenger to get out and almost ended up in a deadly situation. Turns out he was an escaped convict and was carrying a loaded weapon. He admitted he would have shot my friend had he not called for backup and realized he was surrounded. Death is only a second away. No excuse for abuse by law enforcement, just reality of what can happen at any given moment.

If you reread my post, I was never really bashing the initial officers involved. If you see the guy come in at the end and apply 5-6 kicks to the guys head, thats the issue I have and if you dont see something wrong with that...... Just wow... There probably is no hope for society.

I understand their position on not understanding whats going on with the man and their duty to protect themselves but the kicks to the head were NOT needed nor did that guy do ANYTHING to help the situation. He should be punished like every other joe-shmoe would.
