Exclamation New Coolant For 2013

Chrysler has changed engine coolant types for the 2013 model year. The new coolant is purple in color and is called Organic Additive Technology (OAT) and should not be confused with the pink colored Hybrid Organic Additive Technology (HOAT). Most importantly, other types of coolant should NOT be mixed with OAT except in an emergency as mixing types will cause the coolant to gel and could lead to significant engine damage. If types must be mixed, a complete system flush should be performed ASAP. As with other coolant types, it should be mixed 50/50 with distilled water which will give freeze protection fo -35F.

Thanks for the info Randy! Is the current HOAT coolant compatible with anything else or can this also not be mixed with other coolants? The dealership always tops mine off but so far as I know, I can't find it aftermarket and have had someone else ask me about this.

No, it's not, Dana. There are companies out there that claim there product is compatible with all types, but I won't use them if given a choice. I have seen gelling in cooling systems but can't say with 100% certainty that mixing coolant caused it.

After reading back through the 2013 Ram owners manual I noticed it said the coolant flush interval is 10 years or 150,000 miles.

My question is, since I am pretty sure they haven't changed anything cooling wise on the new Hemi engines yet, can the 09-12 trucks use this as well?

Overall they've got some pretty crazy claims on these maintenance intervals.

Automatic Transmission fluid and filter at 120,000 miles or 12 years if not being used for fleet, taxi, police, or frequent trailer towing.

Transfer case fluid is 130,000 miles or 13 years if not being used for fleet, taxi, police, or frequent trailer towing.

I won't use anything that's allegedly compatible with all types. It's just not worth taking a chance, IMO.

Longevity as far as I know. HOAT is supposed to be capable of 5 years or 100k, but I do a drain and fill on mine every 2 years regardless and I've never had a cooling system problem. I do this in lieu of a complete flush, mainly because using the flush machine is a royal PITA. I've seen people wait the full 5 years and have issues with water pump bearings and I suspect the coolant has lost its lubricating properties after about 4 years. The longest I would be willing to go on HOAT is 3 years based on my experiences.
