Got the springs rates figured out and ordered some of these...

Profender 2.5 Coilovers with remote reservoirs and 16" Travel for all four corners. Made in Thailand, but I couldn't beat the deal I was given, which included the Viper springs. I've only seen good things about them on other forums, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Nothing wrong with Thailand, and they have some great reviews about those Vipers I've n3verheard of anyone really complaining about them

After 6 months of measuring, studying, planning, and drawing, parts are finally rolling in about everyday. Since my last post, I have been working on cleaning up the rockwells and putting fresh paint down to stop them rusting. I also got the brakes put together.

Here's a sneak peak at what to expect on the axles...

I ran into a huge hiccup that cost me several days of work on the axles when I got to the the spindle nut. I knew they were 3", but I didn't know they are octagon... together it's a rare combination that required ordering a special tool online. Yes, I could have used a hammer and chisel to knock them loose, but that's not how I roll unless it's an emergency or I'm broke on the trail and can't get the right tool. Oh well.... I'll have more pictures later this week.

I felt pretty good about myself when i put in my CAI in about 30 minutes and didn't break anything. Now reading this tread I dont feel so accomplished. This is awsome, and like a previous post said, i wish i had the know how to do stuff like this..

Thanks for posting so us armchair mechanics can watch you do it.

I got the spindle nut socket this afternoon! Started tearing into the Rocks within about 15 minutes... LOL

I have fairly meaty mits, so when I bought the Rocks, even though I checked and was promised that both axles had Spicer style shafts, I wasn't 100% sure on one of them.

The first actually has the "Rockwell-Standard" tag and Rockwell logos in the casting on the drums and chunk, so no questions about that axle. However, the second axle and oddly the cleaner of the two actually had what look like Timken logos on the castings. The shafts put in the Duece and a Half axles when the company was "Timken" are not desirable. For peace of mind that is the axle I am tearing into first and plan to do the most work on. As many times as I stuck my fingers in this one, I just couldn't get them in deep enough for this one to give up it's secrets. The seller claimed he bought this axle and brought it home in a box as a fresh rebuilder in '96, so it should not have the undesirable Rezepa or Bendix joints. He never got it under a vehicle and decided to sell after it sat around for 15 years... I guess we'll see.

Started by debraking.

And now for the moment of truth....

Drum roll.....

Relief!

I'll be flipping everything on this axle for use on the rear. Both have mohawks waiting... hope to get that far by the end of the weekend.

Oh, for you armchair mechanics... don't get too down on yourselves. I'm an Industrial Engineer, so this stuff wasn't encoded into my genome or anything like that.

I finished tearing down the rear axle yesterday. Now working on getting it ready for the third member rotation (to center the pinion with the rear drive shaft), addition of the mohawk, and removal of the previously added leaf spring brackets.
