dark side.... Funny!

In order to avoid disapproval on this forum, I won't get into too many details on my tow rig, but it was named "Das Vader" by a good friend of mine that actually spent 14 hours truck shopping for me while I was starting my rebuilding efforts after the tornado. He basically took my specs, test drove a slew of pre-owned rigs, and found me the biggest bang for my buck about a week after the tornado.

(Das in place of Darth - translates to "The Vader" - to pay tribute to one of my favorite foreign flicks - Das Boot. Vader because he's a huge SW fan and it's a blacked out diesel with a low throaty exhaust.)

And yet in German Darth Vader (Vater, pronounced the same) means Dark Father

John from Stazworks sent me a picture of StormTrooper's new wheels. Looks like I won't be flipping my hubs after all... maybe disc brakes are still in my future, but not anytime soon. The wheel pictured is from a set ordered by one of the guys in TTC this year, but they made a last minute adjustment to the back spacing, so Stazworks gave me a great deal on these. In the end it will make ST about 4-6" wider, but the previous setup may have been a little too narrow at just 2" wider than street form.

They should be ready to ship in a day or two!

4-6"??!! Holy crap man. Yea I don't foresee this thing rolling over anytime soon. How's the frame and body coming along or are you working from the ground up?

I think I posted the latest pictures after cutting 30" off the rear frame. Been spending what little time I've had on the axles.

In street form, the width to the outer edges of the tires was 86". That was with after market wheels and tires.

I'll be around 90 - 92" wide with the new wheel/tire/axle configuration. For reference, stock Jeep Wranglers have a 93.4" wheelbase (length) and about 67" wide. SO, yeah.... hopefully less likely to roll sideways.

Notice how the tire extends beyond the frame? The front will do this as well. Giving ST greater than 90* approach and departure angles.

It's not capable of being street legal... pinion breaks, rear steer, 48" tires and no bumpers... I'm thinking I might have a hard time getting it to pass an inspection around here.
