I do it just like I do a haul tuck at work.Start at the engine check engine oil, ATF, power steering, air filter, antifreeze resivor, and washer fluid and wiper blades. Don't forget to check for cracks and splits in the serpentine belt. Next start at left front tire and work your way around the truck checking the tires (valve stem's, tread, and sidewalls especialy along the rims) also check the lugnuts and brake pads and rotors. Next turn on the lights and hazard's and walk around the truck to make sure there all working. Don't forget to check the horn. Also check diferentials, axel seals, and tail shaft on transfercase for leaks. I do that before every 1700 mile trip back east. Sure takes a lot of worry out of the drive.

Doesn't hurt to check you spare tire for proper inflation, and make sure the unit that holds it in place isn't ceased. You'd be suprised how fast they can lock up and then your spare is useless, it happened to one of our work trucks along side the road...really sucked. Without tools(B.F.H., pry bars...) it would have been impossible to get the spare out, luckily we had those avaliable.

I used to run my 04 Ram 1500 QC 4wd with the 4.7 back and forth from Maine to Seminole Florida and I can tell ya not alot to do but have a GPS thats up to date and all your pre flight checks done as Welr described. I had Good Sam Club and AAA . It really takes all the worry off the trip. Then get out there and drive

Put gas in it.

Seriously....check all fluids, tires, maybe crawl around underneath the truck and under the hood just to look for anything that looks "not right". Other than that, bring a bag of emergency items (qt of oil, gallon of water, duct tape, flash light, small tool kit, zip ties, hair bands, hair clips, chewing gum, belt, rope, etc...)

It's amazing how far you can limp a vehicle with women's clothing accessories...
