I will only say this much-yes i love dodge-but up in this area you can go to the junk yard and find fords and more fords, a few gms in year class 2002 to about 2008-but you will have a hell of a time finding a hemi dodge truck. The salvage yards i know and deal with say they just dont die. Just what i know about up north here. But ya real all the big three make good trucks. But i,m still BIAS-lol.

Default Dodge /Ford?

Here is my take, Have had (2) F-150's, a 2000 & 2006. 2000 had a 4.6 and the 2006 had a 5.4. Dependable truck, but 2004-2010 5.4 had a seious problem with spark plug removal on their aluminum heads. Plugs had steel shank and the cyl. heads were aluminum. BAD mix on the Fords as the plug is set deep into the head and when they were removed a lot of them would break off or strip the head on the way out. BIg problem,BIg bucks! Aprox. cost for plug change is $400-500. if everything go right. Sky's the limit if one breaks or strips the head. Got rid of my '06 before I changed the plugs.

I had a 03 f150 with the 5.4 triton and it blew plug #3 in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming...Put a huge dent in my hood and destroyed the coil on plug to. It cost 500 to have fixed and almost 600 to tow it... You must use a torque wrench on them plugs and put them in dry and check torque at least monthly..the heads cost 2 grand to have removed and re tapped for more plug threads.. That's why I won't buy another 5.4... She also got bad mileage I'd get 350 miles out of a 25 gallon tank so that's 14 mpg on the highway...

The newer ford motors the plugs rust and get stuck and break off when u try to remove them if the previous owner didn't change the 100,000 platinum plugs... So beware of that also....

The Ford spark plug issue with the 5.4 engine was fixed midway through 2006. So half the 2006s and all 07+ do not have an issue with spark plugs. If you get an 04-06 just make sure that they've already been replaced and you're good to go. I'm not sure what exactly the person who posted bigger cabs were not available on 04 F150 4x4s was thinking, but they were available. Ford offered a crew cab (SuperCrew, big back seat, 4 regular doors) option and an extended cab (SuperCab, smaller back seat with suicide doors) option, and obviously they both were options regardless of 4x4 or not. Additionally if you get an 06+ F150 you have the option to get the crew cab with the longer 6.5' bed which wasn't an option with Ram so if that matters to you, it could make up your mind.

In my opinion, it simply comes down to personal taste. I believe both 04+ models of the F150 and Ram are good trucks overall. They both have their share of problems. My advice: go test drive both and see which one you like better.

The only Ford I would own is one without a 5.4L. Plastic cam phasers (ever notice how many 5.4Ls sound like diesels? I do), broken spark plugs, crappy power are enough to scare me away.

My stepdad has a F150 with the 5.4. I believe it's an 06 or 07, just turned over 100k miles never had any issues with it.

I went with Dodge because the Challenger got me into their products, the Express line had everything I was looking for in a truck at a decent price, I didn't trust new Ecoboost technology (don't really know that it's technology lol just slapped a couple turbos on a v6), and it has the most powerful engine under $30k and is rated the same on the highway as a Ford 5.0 4x4

I think most modern vehicles are all pretty reliable so it just comes down to personal preference. It's like the Ford 5.4 spark plug problem. Yes, there were a lot of instances of it but that does not mean for sure that you will have it

I came out of the F150 into this ram. The 5.4L V8 just lacked something. Interior of the Ram is a bit nicer, and while I had very few issues (rear window was leaking somewhere) I wanted out of it before the dreaded 5.4L sparkplug swap.

I'd wanted a Ram for my previous 3 trucks but always ended up changing up at the last minute.

F150s are good trucks, and for the price you're looking at I've seen better deals on the fords than the dodges.

Dodges everybody's afraid of the tranny, but I've got a 100K warrenty so I'm hoping for the best.
