Default Bumpers

So I am having a hard time deciding what to do. I thought I would ask the community what you all thought would look best.

My 2011 Ram 1500 is Deep Cherry Red Pearl with chrome front and back bumpers and chrome grille. I am planning on color matching the grille and putting on my new custom badges.

I am trying to decide what to do with the bumpers.
1. Have them painted or powder coated black.
2. Have them painted to color match the rest of my truck.
3. Buy new bumpers in black and sell my old bumpers.
4. Buy new color matching bumpers and sell my old bumpers.

Has anyone sold their bumpers on here or CL or EBay? How did it go?

Let me know what you all think.
Thanks.

Color match FTW! Too expensive to switch to the sport model bumpers, although they look a little better.

Whatever you do, please post pics because I'm having this same debate!

snrusnak - I wouln't be switching totally to the sport bumper style. I found a place that sells normal color matched bumpers.

Color matching is the way I am leaning. I just don't know if it is worth it to buy new bumpers that are color matched to my truck and sell my 'new' (6 month old) chrome bumpers or just have my chrome ones painted. Painting them will be expensive. I don't think I have the skill to paint them myself and have them look good. So I would have to take them to a shop and I am sure it would be a few hundred bucks each.

Has anyone sold bumpers off your truck?

Thanks for the comments so far.

A buddy of mine is a painter and to his knowledge, you cannot paint over these bumpers because they are metal. Also according to him, tThe grille or any other piece of plastic chrome can be sanded and painted.
I am having my grille painted, so I will give you an update on how that goes.

If anyone has painted their bumpers body color, please share the secrets on how to do so!! The biggest issue is removing the chrome from the bumper....

^I don't know why he would say not to paint over metal...

It is difficult to paint over chrome. It can be done but more prep involved and I think you need a bonding agent before primer or something. I personally wouldn't paint chrome just because it's more PITA and may not adhere well. I've seen it done and it worked but it's not always going to turn out well. I plan on trading my chrome bumpers with someone looking for chrome on their "work" truck then painting those bumpers.

Meant to say chrome plated metal, my bad. It has to do with the prep process like you said. I was looking at using muriatic acid to remove the chrome, but now I think i'm just getting a little out of hand to try and paint these things.

I'm going to start looking at scrap yards for bumpers lol.

So I went to a body shop today to get an estimate. They told me it is extremely difficult and time consuming to prep chrome bumpers for painting and it would be cheaper to buy new bumpers. And even with the prep, it doesn't always turn out good.
So they gave me a quote on new bumpers color matched to my truck clear coated and installed and installing my new color matched grille. Ouch!!! Over $1500. Nearly half that is the new bumpers, but still... Ouch!!!
I got a quote a couple of weeks ago to powder coat my bumpers in black. $300 total for both.
Still trying to decide.

Why not powder coat to match the oem color? Should be able to do it, will just cost a little more, but not that much.

Or trade your chrome's for painted's and then repaint...
