Default Want to Color Match Side Mirrors??

I'm wanting to have my mirrors color matched and I want to remove the cover that I want to color match without having to take the door panels out and remove the whole side mirror.

Has anyone tried this? It looks like the piece can be just popped off but I'm a little scared to try. Want it to look this this:

I have not seen covers in body color except on factory mirrors for sport models. Putco makes a chrome mirror cover that sticks on over the stock black mirrors. You can find them in the mopar accessories catalog; p/n 1PUT0502. You could get these and have a body shop paint them your body color. They are a 10 second install, no need to take apart mirrors.

I have a buddy that specializes in painting trim pieces (even plastic ones). I just want to see if it is possible to remove the said piece so that it can be painted. Don't want to have to purchase covers.
