I swapped mine to synthetic at 550 miles. I dont have a preference, oil is oil IMO. I've used them all. I have a little bit of the Hemi tick so I'll be experimenting with different brands as the change intervals pop up. Right now I'm running Penzoil Platinum 5W20

Probably mobile 1 as that is what was speced for my 300 SRT8.
Very true, I've seen it on an engine in a dyno lab where oil consumption is monitored very closely. I had to put new liners and ring packs in a CNG Mack because we put synthetic oil in during brk -in because the rings would not seat.

I remember Dura-Lube.I ran that in my Audi Coupe. If I remember right it was a treatment kind of an additive like STP.I think it worked some.I used Quaker State in that with good luck.Used Havoline in my 71 Ford Custom and am using Penzoil in my Chevy 4.3 V6 all with good luck ,changed oil at 3000 miles. With my new Ram at around 2-3 thousand I'm going to switch to Mobile 1 partly because Walmart sells it and they sponsor Smoke...T.Stewart.

The frequent oil changes recommended by the dealerships (every 3,000 miles) is an unnecessary expense. The new oils are designed to run an easy 5,000-7500 miles before a change is necessary.

A lot of the reminders you get from the dealerships reminding you to come in for an oil change is really a way to increase their profit margins. The Service Departments bring in about 60% of the profits for a dealership. The more they get you in there, the more they make.

Porsche had a written schedule in their maintenance and service manual that recommended changing oil at 15,000 miles!!! YES 15,000....I couldn't see that so I did it every 7500 and I was running hard . These synthetics can withstand a lot more in between changes than the old oil formulas. They don't break down as quickly, unless you're running on the track, then that's a different story. Heat is the nemesis of any engine....if you're just running to work, or taking trips, then you don't need to change as often...UNLESS you live in a real dusty area, like a rural ranch with dirt roads etc. Bottom line, my oil changes are at 5,000-7500 and I use Mobil 1 5W-20. What was good enough for the hard running Porsches should be just fine for a utility vehicle.

Why not, it's got rings and a honed cylinder wall. You're point?

not sure i had a point, just surprised me, my first thought was comparing apples to mangos, but then i know nothing about cng and engines. i still think since tier three syns are from base stock, you can switch as early as you like. i also am beginning to wonder if i change the oil every 6 thousand miles, do i really need a synthetic.

I think some of the oil change requirements in the US are generated for nothing more than income for the places doing the work. My wife has a 2010 Prius that originally had a 5000 mile/6 month interval. Now Toyota has changed this to 10,000/1 year, some suspect do to oil changes on these cars running close to $100 allot of owners weren't very happy. From my own experience changing oil on our Prius (0-20 M1) at 5000 miles it lookes like the day I put it in.

Common misconception.

But it's your opinion and you're most certainly entitled to it.
