Default Towing an Explorer

I am going to be helping a guy move in the next month and since he can't drive all his vehicles I may be taxing my ram to pull one.

The specs on the Ram are

1998 5.2L Auto
Single Cab, Long Bed
3.55 gearing, 2wd
Class IV hitch

What can I tow or not tow with this setup?

Thanks,

Thanks,
You can safely tow around 5500 Lbs, your entire drivetrain and powertrain can pull or push around 17,000 Lbs but don't try to do it cause you will serious screw up your transmission.

I tow a 32' Travel trailer it's about 5K lbs with my ram van, it has the same setup as you, 5.2L 4 spd autp and 3.55 chrysler 9.25 2wd. It performs well, just make sure you turn OD off when you tow.

I had a 98 1500 with the 318 and towed everything from a 1800lb VW Beetle to a 5400lb 56 Pontiac Safari (including a 93 Grand Cherokee 5.2 which I would think is about the same weight as an Exploder) through the Poconos without issues. As mentioned, turn off the OD and make sure your brakes are up to snuff. If you use a trailer from UHaul, those have surge brakes which help some, but your truck's brakes are still doing most of the work.
