I am getting 10 mpg, i am running 315's, which i think is equal to 35's and a fiberglass cap. I put in cold air induction hoping that would help, never got to check it out though cuz i went to the bigger tires and got the cap shortly after the tires. I am going to try maybe 285's, looked silly when i had 255's on it and a cat back, either dual or 3" single.maybe take cap off and put on only when needed. See what happens then.

i had 315/75/16's on my 96 1500 and i was figuring i was getting some where between 8 and 10 miles to the gallon.. went back to 265/75/16's and averaged 17 mpg on our last trip... truck has 133,000 on a 5.2 4x4 extended cab .. i'm not complaining

Hello I do not know about anyone else but yea something is going on with your truck I get 16 mpg in town and 18 on highway and I have more power than I know what to do with.

My '98 SWB 5.2L/Man/4x4 with 265/75/16's is getting ~14 in the city.
It is due for an oxygen sensor, plugs, wire, cap, etc.

My 95 2wd 318 also gets 13mpg in mixed driving. (half city, half interstate). I did get 20 on a long trip on flat interstate. At 70mph I'm at 2k rpm. So I agree with everyone else, that's it for the mpg.

No, the 5.2 is usually good MPG but only on either a car or small truck like dakota, not a 1500, I found out due to big tires and other factors. I've tried dual exhaust, air intake system, throttle body spacer, higher octane booster, nothing really helps or makes difference, my 98 Ram 1500 still not good mpg is about all I can tell you.

I'm sure I used to get between 15 to17mpg when I first bought my 95 SWB 4x4. But over the years it has gotten worse. Most likely due for some kind of tune up. Still a good ole truck though over 250,000 km and still doesn't burn any oil. I've had the truck since 96. And other then regular maintenance I have only replaced the rear end once and that's it. Might sea foam it and watch it smoke for awhile. I am jealous of the other owners who 318's could peel rubber I know mine never could. But in the mid 90's the 2nd gen Dodge was the coolest truck around.

i was getting about the same with 3.55s and 35s then i regeared to 4.10s and gas milage improved a bit...something to think about

That 3" exhaust isnt helping with your off the line torque, go back to stock size piping and you'll get better gas mileage.

I use to get ~19mpg on the hwy when my '98 was new... at close to 150,000 miles and I'm ~14mpg city, and don't seem to get any better on long runs.

I'm changing oxygen sensors, hoping that will help a little... and plan to do an electric fan and the throttle body mod.... one thing at a time to see what has the best effect.
