So I forgot to do the front ujoint on the slip yoke while I had the driveshaft out to do the rear joint and decided today to do it. Cracked slip joint. FML. Back to the junkyards I go...

I'm just glad I decided to clean it up really well and inspect it before trying to press in the new joint. I'm learning with this truck to not take ANYTHING for granted. Next is a tranny flush as I'm going to assume it has seen anything BUT ATF+4. I found a 'multipurpose' empty under the back seat...

This outer stub you posted is for 4 wheel ABS



You only have rear ABS.

Exactly. No one and I mean NO ONE in my area carries anything but that shaft. Not Advanced, not Autozone, not Parts Geek, not Rock Auto, not Pep Boys, not NAPA (we don't have O'Reilly's or Checkers in this area), not Parts +, not SAS, not Federated. I could get it from the dealer or moparparts.com ...for $680...plus $78 shipping, which is more than I paid for the truck. The ABS version I got for $268. Even the local junk yards only had the ABS version available, which I find ironic since both Rams of this vintage I've had were only rear ABS, as well as 5 of my friends that also have 2nd gens. It fits without issues so I'm just going to roll with it.

Oh, and to complicate things more? The rear has been changed...to non-ABS. Thankfully I know the guys at my local SI location and they said they'd pass it.

Whoever owned this Ram before you definately had some grand ideas and not much caution. Never heard of a rear end being Changed to non-ABS

No kidding. BTW, have you seen the pic of the driver's control arm when I got it? How about the ball joints? Just in case they were missed...

The PO was definitely caution free...and a few eggs short of a dozen:





...don't even ask how the gas tank is supported.

Suspension, ujoints, brakes, front axle are done. Time to move on to transmission issues and some body work...
