Default What is this thing?

I was fiddling with my console, when I noticed a little cover just below and to the right (when looking down from the top) of the shifter. I popped it off and there's some type of red button or switch in there. Anyone have a clue what it could be?

That is the ejection button for when you have a Ford or Chevy guy in your truck and then when they are telling you how awesome your truck is you can go "Wanna see something even cooler? Does your truck have one of these" That is when you press the button and make them wish they were Driving a Ram!!

But in all seriousness I don't know as I only have an 08 and my ejection system consists of power windows and trying to push them out. But I am interested to hear what it is.

It allows you to take your truck out of park when the engine is not running.
Try it… Be on a flat surface. Put foot on brake. Use a screw driver to depress the red button. Move gear selector. Watch friend eject thru the roof.

I'm thinking I like the ejection seat part better. Woulda thought hard about getting a sport if that's what it was. I am depressed.

Dodge put that in there so you can move the shifter to the rear when the engine is not running
the reason that you would need to have the shifter to the rear is so that you can pull the full floor console apart to work on parts within the console

using plastic trim tool, pry up the rectangular chrome trim ring & set it aside
then push down on the little ring just below the shifter handle & remove the handle
then lift that little flap & push down on the red tab & pull the shifter handle to the rear
lift the rubber piece at the very front of the floor console, remove the 2 screws
check the other rubber pieces for other screws

then you should be able to pull the center console apart, piece by piece, moving the shifter as you need to
