Default oil change intervals

I got the 3 month call from the dealership saying its time for for my first oil change to keep inline with the warranty. I asked why they were calling and she says oil is supposed to be changed every 3 months or 5000km whichever comes first. ok so why does my owners manual say 6 months or 13000km ?? she said they just had a meeting about that ( yea right). so is the book wrong?? and what if i only drive 600km in 3 months am I required to change oil? this sounds a little rediculious. Evic has not told me its time to change the oil yet. anyone have input??

I did my 1st oil change at 4242 (A month after I bought it) because I was going on a 500 mile trip the next day, and I got my 1st free oil change at the dealer. I'm going to do the second service at 10000, and then every 5000 thereafter. My dealership even put on the oil change sticker Next service due at 7242. Chrysler might have all the dealerships going by the old 3000 mile rule, just because thats a good way to raise revenue in their shop.

IMHO,
I do not think Dodge has any thing to do with the 3000 Mi, 3 month oil change.

It is the dealer trying to MAKE MONEY. Go buy the Owner's Manual for warranty, after that do as you please. New "oils" have extended use cycles but will void warranty if using extended cycles.

Owner's Manual, if it was wrong, Dodge, not the dealer, will notify you.

For our fleet vehicles you are only required to take it in for an oil change when the truck tells you to for warranty purposes. This is usually around 6000 miles. The dealership can tell you "every three months" or something like that, but they are wrong. Simply follow whats in the owners manual and you'll be fine. I just got my oil changed on my personal truck and the dealer's oil change sticker is for 7500 miles after they changed it.

If my dealer had placed such a call to me, I would have called bull$hit and said I'll follow the DODGE OWNERS MANUAL, not a dealer looking to 'upsell' you on unneeded/unnecessary service work. Darin

I got mine changed at 3 months but i had 5500kms, My next will be at 13000 kms or if the oil change light comes on, then at every 13,000 or when oil change light comes on. Dealer is definetly trying to make money...

You could always call Ram Customer support and ask what they would say, I myself would change my oil every 5600klm, so it does not even come close to the book at 13000klm, and I am putting Full synthetic in her now. So would easily be good for 13000klm before the next one.

Default Interval Oil Change

I was asking that question too as I just finished 5500 miles on my new RAM in one month, while the Manual says 13000. Dealership said every 6000 KMS coming close to 4000 miles. Which is what I usually changed my old Avalanche at (50% of oil life according to its DIS). Rest of waranty work as close to the book I guess.....Sticking with 4000 miles myself.
