Congrats. But it is pretty easy to get this within the first 100 miles. I want to see a picture of someone who has gone through 3/4 of the gas tank and still has 20+mpg.

BTW, I feel your pain on the 32 gallon tank, dealer pulled some jedi mind tricks and I went for it. Now I have to pull out a loan to fill up my truck, $4.25/g out here.

I have done it one time before I think it was 20 mpg and that was 3/4 of a tank

I love having it! I like having a little bit of extra range. It's not like having it is costing more money - the gas costs the same regardless, all that changes is the fill-up intervals. The effect of an extra 6 gallons of gas on your mileage (in terms of weight) is basically non-existent. Unfortunately, at $100.00 or so per tank, the gas every month is as much as the truck payment.

Best I can remember seeing is a little under 500 miles DTE. Not so much lately because a lot of the pumps around here cut you off at $100 and with the price of gas continuing to go up, that no longer fills the tank, so my DTE estimates after fill-up have gone down. Think the last time around it read 437. Used to be more like 473 (or more).

When I baby it on the high way the most I've ever gotten on is 600 miles thats on the smaller tank. But none of you have anything to complain about I pay 5.48 a gallon with prices expected to sky rocket to 6 a gallon this summer. I try my best to baby it but if I didn't need a truck I would be hard pressed to find a reason to pay 160 a fill up

Never seen that number before. I hit 16mpg once and i use 89 to 91 octane depending on the gas station. Im also 5000ft above sea level and im sure that effects it and the norm for octane here is 85.

Don't get me wrong. I love having the extra gallons too. it makes a huge difference when I drive to Utah to see Family. From South Orange County to Vegas almost St. George on one tank is miraculous. But it does hurt to fill it up if I go past the 3/4 tank marker.

And the shut off at $100 is a pain in the ass considering it's usually $107 to fill it up from 3/4 tank.

Came back to this thread because of what happened today...

I wish I'd taken a pic (crappy old school cell phone), because I was at a bit under 3/4 of a tank today and I got the best mileage I have ever gotten. On my way home from work this morning, I hit 23.0 mpg (almost all highway). Although it mostly alternated between 22.6 and 22.9 mpg. My DTE from departure to arrival (22.5 miles) went up by a handful of miles, ended at 299 miles to empty I think. The mpg peaked in a long stretch where there is ongoing road construction, and I was doing 55 mph there. Some of the trip was at 65 mph also (on cruise), where it fell off to anywhere from 21.9 to 22.4 mpg. Little bit of 45 mph stuff (no cruise) for a couple of minutes where I hit a few lights, still stayed in the high 19's.

The highway had a lot of flat areas, but it does have a fair number of overpasses where it rises and falls, so there was definitely some uphill stuff involved. This type of mileage is not typical for me - normally I get 18 or 19 on this same trip. Not sure what it was about today that was different, just had a good run home and was able to keep it on cruise control, which brings me to my next point...


But it will do it if you do not use cruse control because it takes a lot of manipulation of the gas petal to do it.

Hands down, I always fare better when using the cruise control. I can drive really conservatively and do pretty good (but never as well) with careful pedal management. Generally I find it too frustrating to keep doing it for long and the reward isn't worth the work to me. I am not a lead-foot kinda driver anyway, just like to have a lot of power if I need it. Cruise control should always be better because it is more consistent over time and pedal manipulation is your enemy. It's the reason why someone with a steady foot can drive a steady 65 mph on the highway and the person doing 65 mph on cruise control will leave them behind.

In case anyone is wondering...

My truck: 2011 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman crew cab, 5.7 L Hemi, 2WD, 3.92 gearing with "anti-slip" differential, 32 gallon tank, just over 8,000 miles on the odometer.

In my 2009 QC, the curb weight is right at 5,300 pounds
I drove over the public scales & with me & my tools & equipment, it weighs 6,300 pounds, more with my suitcases & beverage coolers

We have this 13 mile long hill going down into the desert, i reset my computer mpg & i saw 28 mpg at the bottom of that hill

I was driving across fairly flat land in Oklahoma & Texas last August & i looked at my EVIC
the Ram mileage was 51,000 miles, i had the A/C on, i was doing about 80, here is what i saw

Ok, today I took a picture. Couldn't quite hit 23.0 again, but it was SOOO close! The difference was probably that I had to adjust the cruise speed up and down a bit here and there more often today than yesterday because of traffic. This was done running on 87 octane, too.
