Cool Removing 4.7 out of engine bay question

As most of you know I am replacing my old 4.7 with a new crate motor 4.7 and need to know what method has anyone used to remove engine safely??? ( using floor engine hoist ). Half the firewall cowling covers top of engine so where do I "chain" engine where it does not interfere with the top of cowl during removal and installation??? I was going to use a load leveler but it does not allow for enough room! Looks like I am going to have to use a short chain to allow enough clearance with engine hoist to pick up and re-install!! Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I would pull the front radiator supports and anything else in front off and just use a short chain so that you can go strait out with it and not have to lift so high and also remove the intake to allow for more clerance.

After I posted this, I went out and looked at it and came to the same conclusion! Got the entire radiator assembly out of the way and ready to remove intake plenum!! Engine will come up slightly then out horizontally! Thanks for the reply kind sir!!

Could not re-size them to fit on forum but I am posting a public link to my photo album on facebook on how I removed engine and put new one in, and notice I was able to leave A/C intact when I removed it!! A real pain but I didn't have to open A/C system! Hopefully link will work but if it doesnt, just send me a friend request on facebook!

Thanks! Just out of curiosity, what was wrong with the original engine if anything?

I owner financed a "so called friend" on this truck and in the 20 months of ownership they did not take care of or service truck "properly" and sludged the motor which in turn damaged the valves in the P/S bank! They could not afford repairs or payments so I am reparing the truck back to new condition!!

I am currently trying to remove the engine in my 02 Ram 1500 4.7 liter and I have a question. It looks like you disconnected the engine from the transmission for removal. I was wondering if that was hard to do.

The reason I ask is because I'm following instructions in the Haynes repair manual and it's saying to take the engine and transmission out by disconnecting them at something called the axle isolator bracket. I really don't want to do that as I'm unsure about what that is and I'm having a hard enough time with the exhaust as is.

So again was the transmission disconnect straight forward? Or is it worth the extra effort to take the engine and transmission out as one?
