Default 2005 Hemi -what is best way to 400hp???

I've got a 2005 Dodge Ram Hemi 4x4 quad cab. What is the best way to get this 345HP 5.7L to an honest 400hp? I'd like performance on par or better than the 390HP hemi.

Thanks!

Fred has a great N/A motor setup...or you could bolt on a Procharger.

I was certainly hoping I wouldn't have to spend $5000 + on a supercharger or ported heads/cam/nitrous/exhaust, etc, etc to have the power of a new Ram.

Will not long tube headers, a good catback, air filter intake kit, cam/springs and a tune not get me above and beyond a new ram?

I'm much more on board with $2000 for 55hp (doing the work myself) than $5000.

If I can't increase an honest 55hp for $2000 (NOT using nitrous), then it is just not worth trying to increse the HP on this truck to me.

if you are only looking for 55 flywheel hp...then yes L/Ts, catback, cam, CAI with a custom tune will get you there no problem. it'll prob end up even a little more then 55hp.

I would think 4.56's/programmer/cai/headers/180 t-stat will put you a head of a stock 4G that's close to your trim. Maybe 2wd 4 doors too. gears will take care of the low while all else will help through the rpm.

weight reduction maybe another option and cheap.

I'm at that hp without the nitrous..if your goin by crank numbers since those are the numbers your posting, I'm about 480 at the crank (add another 100 hp for nitrous)... I nickeld and dimed my way with my mods, only mod i paid higher dollars for was the bv heads...cam was $375 (installed myself), lt headers cost me $175 (used from another member), full exhaust $200, efan $25, gears $175, tq verter $350, cai $250, 180 tstat $12, diablo $275 etc. I didn't buy any of this stuff together and took about 5 years to buy everything... I wasn't even considering nitrous until someone gave it to me...

but just start little here and there an the hp will add up with each mod..400 is easy with crank numbers.. us performance guys don't and use hp at the wheels when we do stuff..

the big plus you have is that you have an 05..arguably the best year to have when it comes to tuning...

OK, these answers lead to a few more questions on my part.

1. It's mentioned that 2005 may be the best year for tuning? What's the best tuner out there for a 2005? SCT?

2. Can anyone recommend a vendor that would be able to recommend the right cam for my application and provide me a mail order tune for a cam/cai/headers/catback application?

Thanks again.

Sct was good before Diablo came out... my opinion, if you don't think your gonna custom tune, go with Superchips since they have better tranny control of all the tuners...if you think you want to do custom tuning, than do diablo... My first tuner was superchips, it worked great for me til the point that I needed custom tuning because of my cam/head combination..

as for cam, call Stu @ inertiamotorsports.com , tell him what you got for mods, that you're a 4x4, what you think you might do for future mods and he can custom grind you a cam... mine was a custom grind and since it performs so well he made it an off the shelf product...

..as for the other mods, we have some good vendors here.. but I've always worked with moesperformance.com , Matt, the guy who runs it now is the reason I started modding.. before he got involved with Moes he was one of the first guys who cammed his hemi and i followed his mod process closely (let him be the guinea pig) and what worked for him I applied to mine...I'm not that knowlegeable enginewise (my first experience with engines was my ram) so i had to be a follower...

as for tuners, you want to find someone with experience with the Rams, I've used a cmr tuner who had experience with hemi lx platforms and found that our trucks are a totally different animal to tune. The experienced ones that I know are Sean (hemifever), Dave (whitelightning), Stu also has a tuner that he works with as well (or he might be doing tuning now as well...)... I've had custom tunes from 4 different tuners and the ones that came from lx platform tuners were always suspect..
